Position Overview

Weatherization Inspector ensures ERCOT meets regulatory requirements for generation and transmission weatherization and maintenance compliance inspections/audits for Texas power plants and transmission facilities.

Responsibilities
  • Perform on-site and remote inspections of generating stations and transmission facilities.
  • Monitor and determine whether weather emergency preparedness reliability standards are met.
  • Inspect, provide inspection reports, identify areas of potential non‑compliance, request mitigation and corrective action, and verify remedial work is completed.
  • Develop detailed solutions and improvements to procedures to improve accuracy, efficiency, and timelines of inspection activities.
  • Assist in scheduling multiple site inspections across Texas.
  • Continuously improve working knowledge of the market, power systems, and technologies used by Market Participants.
  • Serve as the departmental representative on cross‑functional teams, proactively providing technical, business, and policy guidance.
  • Lead projects and internal audits as assigned by management.
  • Act as mentor and advisor to less experienced inspectors.
  • Represent ERCOT at stakeholder forums, committees, and/or working groups.
  • Communicate with generator and transmission owners.
  • Coordinate, perform, and provide detailed reporting on inspection/audit activities within assigned ERCOT Weather Zones.
  • Conduct site visits for compliance inspections/audits, including physical inspection of equipment and verification of compliance with weatherization and maintenance work orders, preventive maintenance records, and checklists.
  • Maintain regular communication with the weatherization team to provide relevant information and line of sight on work activities.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of related work experience in excess of degree requirements.
  • Experience in thermal power plant maintenance or operations (preferably ERCOT region).
  • Familiarity with power plant weatherization in thermal and intermittent technologies.
  • Knowledge of inverter‑based resource operations, limitations, and equipment.
  • Familiarity with transmission operation and equipment.
  • Tech‑savvy with good working knowledge of MS Office Suite.
  • Vendor and project management experience.
Certification & Training
  • Must receive ERCOT Weatherization Inspector Certification within the first year of hire.
  • Must complete annual continuing training requirements.
Other Requirements
  • Travel required—up to 75% for multiple days at a time.
  • Ability to walk, climb stairs and ladders, stand for prolonged periods, and access power plant, transmission facilities, and load resource facilities while wearing appropriate PPE.
  • Capability to gain clearance for escorted and/or unescorted access for plant visits and inspections as needed.
  • Holder of a valid Texas driver’s license with an acceptable driving record and reliable personal vehicle.
  • Dependable internet access.
Inspection Locations
  • Located in or willing to relocate to Houston, Victoria, or Corpus Christi area.
  • Inspections at various power generation resources and transmission facilities owned by market participants within the designated area, including possible on‑site visits to the Taylor or Austin facilities at least once a month.
Compensation

Expected Salary Range: $109,000 - $150,000
