PositionSummary
The Senior Linux Engineer is responsible for the architecture, operation, and lifecycle management of Linux platforms and application servers supporting Samsung’s semiconductor manufacturing environments. This role oversees Red Hat and Oracle Linux systems, manages patching and upgrades, leads virtualization and migration efforts, and provides Tier‑3 support for complex issues across MIS, MOS, and NES systems. This individual will own datacenter systems across the Taylor and Austin facilities, ensure 24/7 readiness for FAB production support, and own projects involving disaster recovery, new system design, and infrastructure implementation.
This is a full‑time onsite role in Taylor, TX.
Responsibilities- Engineer mission‑critical FAB production and facility systems, ensuring 24/7/365 availability across Taylor and Austin datacenters.
- Define infrastructure roadmaps aligned with budget planning, lifecycle management, and long‑term asset strategy.
- Develop and implement Linux platforms including Red Hat, Oracle Linux, CentOS, and Rocky Linux across physical and virtual environments.
- Manage Linux patching, OS upgrades, kernel updates, system migrations, and virtualization initiatives, providing Tier‑3 escalation support.
- Monitor, configure, and optimize MIS, MOS, and NES systems across datacenters and FAB/CUB environments, ensuring stable and secure operation.
- Lead datacenter projects including disaster recovery planning, new system architecture, and implementation of next‑generation infrastructure.
- Configure, maintain, and operate application servers, ensuring performance, security, and integration with production systems.
- Oversee datacenter operations for both Austin and Taylor facilities, including system monitoring, alert response, and capacity planning.
- Manage asset inventories, lifecycle documentation, and compliance with internal standards.
- Develop, update, and enforce Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for Linux and datacenter operations.
- Provide mentorship, training, and technical guidance to junior and entry‑level engineers and technicians.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to support production line uptime, facility systems, and engineering applications.
- Communicate clearly and partner with technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
- Provide effective knowledge transfer to peers.
- Maintain meticulous documentation habits and proactively share insights that strengthen team capability.
- Respond effectively to urgent or after‑hours support needs.
- 7+ years of hands‑on experience administering Linux systems in enterprise or manufacturing environments.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field preferred; equivalent experience and certifications accepted.
- Deep expertise with Red Hat, Oracle Linux, CentOS, Rocky Linux, and related distributions.
- Strong experience with Kubernetes and Docker for container orchestration and application deployment.
- Proven background in virtualization technologies, with VMware VCF strongly preferred.
- Advanced storage administration experience with Net App, EMC, and enterprise SAN environments, including LUN provisioning, iSCSI/FC configuration, CIFS/NFS management, and NDMP operations.
- Demonstrated ability to architect, deploy, and maintain Linux‑based open‑source applications in production environments.
