Position: HD Public Health and Prevention Specialist I

Public Health And Prevention Specialist

This position is responsible for providing customer service support, receiving and responding to various public inquiries, scheduling appointments, and general customer service duties related to clinic support. Serves as the entry point to the WCCHD Public Health Center (PHC) Clinical Services Division. Responsibilities include answering multiple telephone lines; routing calls to staff including transferring to appropriate divisions, maintaining medical records, including immunization records and laboratory results, ordering and keeping inventory of supplies, and screening clients for eligible programs such as Texas Vaccine for Children (TVFC) and the Clinical Services Charity Care Program.

The Clinical Services Public Health and Prevention Specialist works closely with the nursing team and with each client from intake to check-out, to ensure a positive experience. This position is funded through September 23, 2027, employment beyond that date is not guaranteed.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • When necessary, makes reports of Child Abuse or neglect of children
  • Assist or be responsible for clinic quality assurance activities such as, client data accuracy and immunization recall efforts
  • Assists in evaluating clinical service flow and volume to ensure delivery of services are efficient and effective
  • Responsible for running end of day reports for deposit purposes
  • Schedule appointments for clients receiving services at WCCHD PHC locations
  • Enter or update client information in eClinical

    Works or Immtrac2 as needed
  • Provide clients with appropriate paperwork related to the services requested
  • Follow protocol for incoming and outgoing calls
  • Fax reports, make copies of client charts as requested by other facilities, as well as for clients as required
  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA laws as they pertain to release and maintenance of medical information and client confidentiality
  • Distribute & collect client satisfaction surveys
  • Manage incoming and outgoing mail and fax correspondence daily
  • Order and restock office supplies as needed
  • Participate in the office safety plan
  • Interpret for Spanish speaking clients as needed
  • Facilitate translation services for non-English speaking clients
  • Provide clients with information on other WCCHD services including Wilco Care, WIC, and other community resources
  • Respond to provider and client inquiries concerning WCCHD Clinical Services and other programs and services
  • Responsible for collecting fees for services including providing change for cash payments and creating claim in electronic medical record
  • Balance daily payments with reconciliation log and verify change money daily according to WCCHD policies and procedures.
  • Complete deposit and courier logs according WCCHD policies and procedures
  • Coordinate courier services for deposit transportation between WCCHD PHCs
  • Assist with incoming WCCHD program applications according to procedures such as Clinical Services Charity Care Program
  • Verify Medicaid coverage through Texas Medicaid Health Partnership (TMHP) site as appropriate and collect copies of coverage cards when necessary
  • Participates in quarterly meetings and/or trainings
  • May participate on a WCCHD committee or task force
  • Performs other related work as assigned
  • In the event of a public health emergency, employees may be called upon to support WCCHD's response in ways that are outside the usual scope of their job responsibilities. This may involve working hours that are outside the employee's usual work hours. Employees will not be required to perform duties that are outside of their competence or professional licensure
Education, Licensure, Certifications, Experience
  • High School diploma or GED required
  • Bilingual English/Spanish is required - selected candidates will be required to complete and pass a Spanish Listening and Speaking assessment prior to receiving a contingent offer
  • Medical or other receptionist experience preferred
  • CPR certified or willingness to obtain
  • Valid Texas driver's license and access to reliable transportation to all assigned work locations
  • Selected candidates will be required to complete a pre-employment skills assessment as part of the hiring process, prior to receiving a contingent offer
  • Selected candidates in the Clinical Services Division, Environmental Health Division, and WIC Division, will receive a conditional offer of employment contingent upon the candidate passing a pre-employment-controlled substances screening test. The candidate must be tested and receive a negative result before starting to work.
  • All selected candidates are required to pass a background check as a condition of employment.
