Job Responsibilities

  • Plan and execute system software upgrades, configurations, and application releases for the Grid and Market Solutions (GMS) suite, including ICCP/SCADA, EMS, VSAT/TSAT, PMU, Itron Load Forecast, OTS, PI, NMMS, MMS, OS, CRR, and other GMS tools.
  • Perform non‑functional testing, patch implementations, migrations, and database updates in GMS environments.
  • Provide 24/7 on‑call technical support, emergency recovery, and troubleshoot GMS applications and interfaces.
  • Monitor system performance, analyze metrics such as CPU, memory, and storage, identify design problems, and drive resolution, including use of monitoring tools.
  • Collaborate with Operations Engineering, Market Operations, and other business units during acceptance testing of new or enhanced applications.
  • Maintain documentation, administer GMS systems, and deliver user training and support.
  • Participate in GMS disaster‑recovery drills, certify and implement changes in production and test environments.
  • Plan, deploy, and manage containerized GMS applications utilizing CI/CD integration tools (Ansible, Jenkins, Jfrog, Git Hub, etc.).
  • Develop and implement integration layers, messaging services, and platform integrations to improve GMS reliability.
Additional Duties
  • Virtually monitor GMS systems and applications and perform regular maintenance activities.
  • Coordinate and perform database updates and upgrades across GMS environments.
  • Assist operations engineering and market operations during acceptance testing of new and enhanced applications.
  • Support effective use and administration of GMS systems by preparing technical documentation.
  • Perform patch implementations and migrations in GMS systems.
  • Set up and test systems with market participants as needed.
  • Respond to system failures and operator questions on a 24/7 on‑call rotation.
  • Work with market participants to resolve problems and implement changes.
  • Perform emergency recovery and troubleshooting of GMS systems and applications.
  • Maintain real‑time data collection to support GMS systems and applications.
  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair GMS systems, applications, and interfaces.
  • Use system data metrics (CPU, memory, NFS storage) to troubleshoot GMS issues.
  • Proactively identify design problems and drive resolution.
  • Participate in GMS disaster‑recovery drills and certify changes to production and test environments.
  • Interface with ERCOT QSEs on a regular basis for communication tests and support.
  • Analyze system performance and recommend business enhancements.
  • Represent GMS Production Department at inter‑departmental meetings.
  • Work with vendors to clarify GMS capabilities, requirements, and resolve issues.
  • Perform systems maintenance and improvement activities to support GMS effectiveness.
  • Participate in planning and evaluating the impact of system modifications and maintenance activities.
  • Enhance GMS systems and application monitoring to improve reliability.
  • Train and support users on all aspects of GMS and related applications.
  • Participate in industry meetings and discussions related to GMS technologies.
  • Provide training or supervise less‑experienced systems analysts.
  • Act as mentor and advisor to less‑experienced engineers/analysts.
  • Work independently on assignments and projects.
  • Collaborate with multifunctional teams to obtain input and address comments.
  • Assist in developing tools, processes, and procedures that enhance system reliability.
  • Participate with other ERCOT departments to select and implement system changes.
Qualifications & Requirements
  • Experience with one of the vendors (GE, Siemens, Hitachi Energy/ABB, Resource Innovations, OSI Inc.) and systems such as EMS, MMS, or Outage Management Systems.
  • Experience with AVEVA PI Historian, Web Tools, and power‑grid technologies.
  • Proficiency in XML, Java, CSS/HTML, JSON, and web technologies.
  • Experience with Oracle PL/SQL and Microsoft/SQL‑Server databases.
  • Experience with Azure/AWS cloud technologies and container platforms (Linux Open Shift, Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Experience developing integration layers using messaging services (Tibco JMS, AMQ).
  • Programming language skills: FORTRAN, C, C++, Java, Perl, Python, and PL/SQL.
