Position: HVAC Mechanical Technician
Essential Functions- Perform routine maintenance and repairs on HVAC equipment, including cooling tower repairs and annual maintenance, compressor and blower maintenance, fan and motor repairs, belt and pulley replacements, troubleshooting and repair of electrical and control systems.
- Conduct equipment inspections to identify potential issues and recommend repairs or replacements as needed.
- Troubleshoot complex problems with HVAC systems and equipment, using specialized tools and equipment to diagnose and resolve issues.
- Develop and implement preventative and predictive maintenance schedules to minimize equipment downtime and optimize system performance.
- Collaborate with other maintenance personnel to coordinate repairs and maintenance activities, ensuring minimal impact on plant operations.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, including work orders, equipment inspections, repair reports, PM schedules, and parts inventory.
- Stay up to date with industry developments and new technologies, applying this knowledge to improve maintenance practices and optimize system performance.
- Ensure compliance with safety protocols and regulations, maintaining a safe working environment for yourself and others.
- Provide training and guidance to junior technicians as needed.
- Use root‑cause analysis tools to identify permanent solutions for recurring failures causing equipment downtime.
- Provide technical support during commissioning and startup for new HVAC equipment, installation, configuration, and testing.
- Interpret schematics, diagrams, written and verbal instructions, and layouts.
- Interact actively with stakeholders and departments on work planning and coordination.
- Mentor and train lower‑level technicians.
- Develop and maintain SOPs using technical expertise and in conformance with standards.
- Decide which type of maintenance is needed, select parts for replacement.
- May participate on cross‑functional teams and conduct routine inspections and investigations.
- Apply knowledge of relevant best practices, state and local codes in area of expertise.
- Regular attendance and timeliness are required per departmental guidelines.
- Adhere to and enforce safety rules, follow safe procedures and guidelines.
- Support plant operation during off‑hours as needed.
- 2-3 years of experience as an HVAC technician, with a focus on industrial systems and equipment.
- Strong knowledge of HVAC principles, including thermodynamics, psychometrics, and heat transfer.
- Experience with cooling tower maintenance and repair, including water treatment and chemical handling.
- Familiarity with compressor and blower systems, including installation, maintenance, and repair.
- Electrical and control systems experience, including troubleshooting and repair.
- Strong problem‑solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex systems and develop effective solutions.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills, able to work effectively with other maintenance personnel and plant operators.
- Certifications in HVAC, electrical, or a related field (e.g., EPA certification, electrical license) are a plus.
- Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment, with a focus on safety, quality, and efficiency.
- Familiarity with predictive maintenance technologies, such as vibration analysis and thermal imaging.
- Ability to work at heights, in confined spaces, and with heavy equipment.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Extensive use of computers for data entry, documentation, analysis, and internal communication.
