ASSOCIATE VICE PRESIDENT OF BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT
The Governor's Office of Economic Opportunity (GOEO) is seeking a skilled Associate Vice President of Business Development to assist our Business Recruitment and Expansion team. The ideal candidate will possess a keen interest in applying economic development tools to recruit and retain companies interested in relocating or expanding to counties within, and adjacent to, the southern Wasatch Front. A qualified candidate will be able to source or receive referrals about companies interested in expansion and present to them: relevant site information in coordination with local partners, area‑specific demographic data including wage and labor force, and other variables pertinent to a business’s opportunity for success in Utah.
Additionally, the Associate Vice President will market programs and services offered by GOEO and other key partners including tax increment financing and workforce training to businesses and consultants as a mechanism to recruit and retain high‑paying jobs to Utah. - Work in a team environment to foster growth with companies and/or site consultants that do business in or support Utah’s targeted industries of:
- Advanced manufacturing
- Aerospace and defense
- Financial services
- Life sciences and healthcare
- Software and information technology
- Energy development
- Collaborate closely with community stakeholders and local economic development professionals to support their unique recruitment and expansion goals.
- Support both local business expansion projects and statewide recruitment efforts, recognizing the equal importance of both strategies to Utah’s economy.
- Collect and curate industry knowledge and establish relationships with companies and communities within an assigned area of expertise.
- Present labor data, housing data, unemployment data, and other relevant economic indicators to businesses interested in expansion and be a champion of Utah as a strategic place to do business.
- Respond to and gather support of communities and locations when the State or partners receive or initiate a Request for Information on opportunities for business expansion.
- Facilitate and act as a guide when a company desires and is approved to participate in the Economic Development Tax Increment Financing or Rural Economic Development Tax Increment Financing program.
- Present and recommend companies for incentives to the Board of Economic Opportunity.
- Foster and develop relationships with municipalities to support how they see economic development in their area and support with resources that are made available to the office through incentives and grants.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to understand needs and constraints that shape Utah’s ability to perform in the marketplace.
- Provide written and verbal presentations of information through email, websites and in-person or online meetings.
- Skillfully track, maintain, and follow up on multiple projects to completion.
- Travel frequently throughout the southern Wasatch Front and adjacent regions, with additional out-of-state travel to build strong relationships with site selectors and businesses considering relocation to Utah.
- Hybrid work schedule with in‑office requirement at the downtown Salt Lake office.
- This position requires a significant amount of flexibility inside and outside of normal office hours.
- Reports to the Vice President of Business Development.
- Resident of the designated region (Preferably in Salt Lake, Utah, or Tooele).
- Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Public Administration, Urban Planning, Real Estate Development, Business, or related field and at least two years of experience in a relevant field. Master’s degree preferred or the equivalent in relevant work experience.
- Previous experience in economic development or real estate development.
- Proven experience presenting information and processes to company leadership.
- Familiarity with Salesforce is highly desirable.
- Strong understanding of economic concepts and principles.
