Job SummaryThe adjunct faculty member will work with full-time faculty, under general supervision of the Associate Dean to deliver in-person ESL instruction to enhance students’ reading, writing, listening, and speaking abilities. ESL classes are available at four campuses:
Taylorsville, South City, Herriman, and West Valley, with both morning and evening session options. Assignments are made based on departmental needs. This is a pooled position. The department reviews applications as positions become available.

Essential Duties & Knowledge, Skills & Abilities- Develops and delivers instruction in alignment with the ESL course curriculum, ensuring lessons are well-prepared and meet outlined learning objectives.
- Utilizes the designated Canvas course shells provided by the department for course development and instruction.
- Complies with the guidelines and policies outlined in the departmental adjunct faculty handbook.
- Participates in department staff meetings and training sessions and completes all mandatory institutional and departmental training requirements within two weeks of being hired.
- Abides by all college policies with priority given to policies governing interactions with colleagues, staff, administrators, and departments throughout the organization.
- Maintains professional etiquette in communications with students, staff, faculty, and administrators.
- Provides appropriate and timely feedback for all assignments and returns graded work in a timely fashion per department standards.
- Maintains student attendance records and grades; conducts evaluations of student performance; informs students of progress and assigns grades by published deadlines.
- Assists in maintaining a safe and mutually respectful instructional environment.
- Prepares and submits incident reports for inappropriate student behavior as defined by policy.
- Maintains professional and collegial behavior; handles and responds to student concerns/complaints promptly (generally within 1-2 days).
- Maintains professional appearance and completes all required employee trainings.
- Completes the Canvas User Credential within a semester of being hired; knows and enforces FERPA guidelines; provides ADA accommodations as requested.
- Performs other job-related duties as needed; communicates effectively with a broad range of diverse people across the college.
- Ability to work with diverse student and staff populations, including those with disabilities.
All Faculty will maintain an on-site campus presence to encourage in-person relationships and create engaging learning experiences unless approved for online-only courses. This position is contract-to-contract with no guaranteed future employment, and employment may be terminated at-will at any time. You are required to maintain professional boundaries with all SLCC students.
Minimum Qualifications- Masters in TESL, TESOL, TEFL, Applied Linguistics with a TESL emphasis, Linguistics with a TESL emphasis, English with a TESL emphasis or Education with a TESL certificate or emphasis;
- OR Masters in Linguistics, Applied Linguistics, English, Composition, Bilingual/Bicultural Studies, Reading, Speech or any foreign language with TESL, TESOL, TEFL, CELTA, or DELTA certificate.
- OR Masters in Linguistics, Applied Linguistics, English, Composition, Bilingual/Bicultural Studies, Reading, Speech or any foreign language AND Bachelors in TESL, TESOL, English with a TESL certificate, Linguistics with a TESL certificate, Applied Linguistics with a TESL certificate, or any foreign language with a TESL certificate.
- College-level teaching experience and/or relevant work experience
- Experience in teaching academic ESL courses at an accredited institution of higher education
- One year of relevant teaching experience
