Job Summary
Under mentorship of an assigned full‑time faculty member, prepare and teach Introductory and Intermediate English Composition and other English courses as needed. Faculty may be assigned to any SLCC location. This is a pooled position; the department reviews applications as positions become available. Attach a resume or curriculum vitae, copy of transcripts, or other documents for consideration. Indicate (1) your availability to teach in‑person, including days/times and locations;
(2) your experience teaching online; and (3) your preference for specific courses.
In accordance with SLCC policy, adjunct positions are offered on a semester‑by‑semester basis with no guarantee of continued employment.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Participate in and complete all apprenticeship program requirements.
- Meet with the full‑time faculty mentor on a scheduled basis.
- Follow the English course curriculum outline; prepare and deliver lectures and other classroom activities.
- Keep accurate classroom records and student attendance records for Financial Aid purposes.
- Coordinate student ADA accommodation requests following college policy and procedures.
- Answer student questions and provide necessary feedback on student progress.
- Support the English department assessment initiatives and submit final grades on time.
- Complete all required trainings and demonstrate professional commitment to the division, school, and college mission and values.
- Maintain professional etiquette in communications with students, staff, faculty, and administrators.
- Provide timely feedback for all assignments and return graded assignments per department standards.
- Conduct appropriate evaluations of student performance and inform students of progress‑to‑date periodically.
- Assist in maintaining a safe and respectful instructional environment and submit incident reports for inappropriate student behavior.
- Enforce FERPA guidelines and provide ADA accommodations as requested.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in English, Composition, Writing Theory, or a related field.
- Current enrollment in a graduate program with a partner institution.
- Acceptance into the SLCC Apprenticeship Program.
Preferred Qualifications
- One year of teaching composition at a post‑secondary institution.
