Job Description

The Chief Financial Officer – Select Health is responsible for financial planning, reporting, and maintaining the financial health of Select Health and its subsidiaries. The leader will determine the financial impact of business decisions, new products, lines of business, business development opportunities, and provider risk arrangements to ensure that financial resources are available to meet strategic goals. The leader oversees financial policies related to underwriting, accounting, finance, actuarial services, auditing, information systems, government, compliance, regulatory requirements, network contracting, and internal reporting to healthcare benefit programs.

Coordinates with the Chair of Select Health’s Finance, Audit, and Compliance Committee.

The individual in this position must reside in Salt Lake City, Utah or the greater Salt Lake area.

Essential Functions
  • Plan, direct, and coordinate the financial activities of the company, including accounting, budgeting, forecasting, reporting, compliance, and risk management.
  • Prepare and present accurate, timely, and reliable financial statements and reports to the CEO, the board of directors, and other key stakeholders.
  • Analyze financial data and provide insights and recommendations to support strategic planning and decision-making.
  • Monitor and evaluate the financial performance and health of the company and identify opportunities and risks. Manage and optimize Select Health’s capital structure, cash flow, and liquidity.
  • Develop and implement financial policies, procedures, and controls to ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and standards.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the finance team and foster a culture of excellence, collaboration, and accountability.
  • Oversees all actuarial and underwriting risk models and provides regular reports to senior management on Select Health’s financial performance.
  • Provides the financial impact of all business decisions including the introduction of new products, partnerships, lines of business or other business development opportunities, and changes in provider risk arrangements.
  • Supports provider contracting efforts to meet strategic initiatives approved by the Select Health and Intermountain Board of Directors.
  • Participates in multi-state provider network strategy
  • Build and maintain relationships with various stakeholders, including employers, plan members, brokers, providers, and community leaders. Collaborate with Intermountain leaders to optimize system and health plan performance.
  • Stay abreast of the trends, challenges, and opportunities in the healthcare and health insurance industry, competitive landscape and provide financial leadership and innovation to adapt to the changing environment.
  • Participates as a member of the Intermountain Chief Financial Officer’s leadership team to ensure appropriate health plan representation and coordination.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in business, healthcare administration, or related field required. CPA preferred. Degree must be obtained through an accredited institution. Education is verified.
  • Demonstrated progressive level experience in financial management in the health insurance or health care industry.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of accounting principles and standards, financial reporting, and regulatory compliance. Actuarial, underwriting network contracting experience preferred.
  • Ability to demonstrate excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, including senior management, board members, auditors, and regulators.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in financial software, systems, and tools.
  • Experience in a managed care organization or integrated delivery system preferred.
  • Demonstrated success in building and maintaining effective relationships with providers, payers, and other stakeholders.
