Position: Assistant Liquor Store Manager - Salt lake City

The Department of Alcoholic Beverage Services, known as the most "spirited" agency in Utah, is looking for an Assistant Manager to become part of our team in Salt Lake City, Utah. Join us to take your retail career to new heights and work with a dynamic team committed to excellence!

Responsibilities
  • Assist the manager with all aspects of the operations of a State Liquor Store.
  • Delegate work assignments.
  • Contribute to the department's service‑focused mission by providing superior customer service.
  • Maintain employee leave and payroll records.
  • Receive and fill orders for licensees.
  • Perform cashiering duties.
  • Assist the store manager with delegating work assignments, monitoring/reviewing quality of work, scheduling staff, providing technical assistance or training, and/or providing input on performance appraisal, hiring and discipline.
  • Maintain account receivables, process payments, and ensure accuracy of receipts and deposits.
  • Conduct regular and/or spot check inventories of merchandise, supplies, or equipment.
  • Ensure that there is an adequate supply of materials available and order, receive, inspect, and store equipment, merchandise, commodities, materials, and/or supplies.
  • Verify that cash intake matches sales and inventory activity.
  • Set up and close cash registers, prepare deposits, process transactions at a cash register, give correct change and close till at end of shift.
  • Assist customers in finding products, making selections and purchasing items.
  • Resolve potential confrontational issues appropriately when dealing with intoxicated individuals, shoplifters, etc.
  • Help ensure staff is trained to prohibit sales to minors.
Minimum Requirements
  • Management experience in a fast‑paced retail store.
  • Capable of bringing out the best in their employees.
  • Ability to ensure that customers receive excellent service.
  • A strong work ethic.
  • Able to lift 50 pounds on a continuous basis.
  • At least 21 years old.
  • Successfully pass a background check.
Preferences
  • Preference may be given to current employees of the Department of Alcoholic Beverage Services.

  • Employer contributions to your 401(k) are vested after four years.
Paid Time Off
  • Eligible employees may accrue 4 hours of annual leave and 4 hours of sick leave each pay period. (Annual leave accrual rate increases with years of service).
  • 12 paid holidays.

Physical Requirements
  • Work requires physical exertion. May require the ability to stand, walk over rough surfaces, bend, crouch, stoop, stretch, reach, lift moderately heavy items (up to 50 lbs.) in a recurring manner and/or for long periods of time.
  • Extensive standing/walking (approx. 70%/30% of shift). Must lift, pull, push, and carry 50 lbs. frequently. Requires constant balancing, grasping, and finger dexterity. Frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, twisting, reaching, and seeing. Requires frequent talking, hearing, and hand/wrist/arm use. Tools: POS, box cutter, hand truck. Walk on either level or uneven surface frequently. Occasional climbing.
