Lead Youth Development Specialist/Control Supervisor
The JJYS Control Supervisor coordinates and schedules activities of residents within the 24‑hour JJS facility. The JJYS Control Supervisor shall provide constant supervision of all individual and group activities for at‑risk youth, while monitoring where all youth are and what they are doing. The JJYS Control Supervisor oversees the daily operations of the ‘Control Room,’ which ensures the safety and security of the youth, employees, volunteers and the public.

The JJYS Control Supervisor oversees the daily operations of the 'Control Room' which ensures the safety and security of the youth, employees, volunteers and the public.

Our team works with at‑risk and delinquent youth in a professional team environment to supervise, teach pro‑social skills, and attain positive behavioral outcomes. The work assignment may be in a community setting, a residential shelter or treatment setting, or in a secure youth correctional facility.
The work is dynamic, challenging and rewarding as youth mature and change due to the interventions provided by Youth Development Associates and Specialists.

Roles And Responsibilities- Uses security and control techniques to secure people, facilities, property, supplies or equipment
- Ensures compliance with applicable federal and/or state laws, regulations, and agency rules
- Maintains records and logs
- Provides crisis intervention when necessary
- Receives calls and/or greets visitors, takes and relays messages, and responds to inquiries
- Assists with teaching a variety of pro‑social, academic and vocational skills
- Provides counseling to youth both individually and in groups surrounding program/facility rules, regulations, and guidelines
- Assists in the preservation of safety and security by performing facility searches and, when required by policy, youth searches
- Helps and encourages youths to behave positively by assessing and evaluating them using a behavior management/reward system
- Mentors youth within a group setting and helps them develop positive plans and goals
- Passes the Integrated Crisis Response (ICR) intervention program within 90 days of employment
- Speaks clearly, concisely and effectively; listens to and understands information and ideas as presented verbally
- Communicates information and ideas clearly, concisely, in writing; reads and understands information presented in writing
Preference may be given to candidates 21 years of age and a high school diploma or GED.
Six years of paid working experience with troubled or at‑risk youth; six years of full‑time education or a combination of education and experience to equal six years.
Qualifying work experiencePaid work at any JJYS facility, Utah State Hospital, Utah State Developmental Center, private residential youth programs, alternative schools, juvenile probation/parole, law enforcement, or programs that work with at‑risk or delinquent youths.
Non-qualifying work experienceVolunteer work with youth and unpaid experience.
Supplemental Information- High risks in this job include physical intervention with clients in order to de‑escalate hostile or volatile situations.
