JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE:
Nurse
Reports to: Superintendent
Position- Part-time School Year Position (Fall 2026 start)
- Full-Time position type indicated for salary details
- Salary: $28.66 to $31.16 per hour
- Location:
Tea, South Dakota - Job
- Education Level: Bachelor’s degree in Nursing and a valid South Dakota Registered Nurse license.
- Experience Desired:
One to three years in health care, preferably community health or pediatrics. - Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift up to 35 pounds intermittently during an eight‑hour day; requires hearing, hand‑eye and mind‑eye coordination, speaking, walking, keyboarding, repetitive wrist, hand, and finger motions, as well as standing, turning, and stooping.
- Consult with administrators to determine goals and services.
- Serve as a team member in identifying, evaluating, and providing services for children.
- Collect information about student health and developmental status systematically and continuously.
- Use collected data to determine a nursing diagnosis.
- Develop and maintain a nursing care plan with specific goals and interventions unique to student needs.
- Serve as liaison between the school, community health and welfare agencies, and the medical profession.
- Focus on prevention of illness, disability, and early detection and correction of health problems.
- Assist with development and maintenance of student health records.
- Review student immunization records to assure compliance with regulations.
- Communicate with colleagues, parents, and students.
- Facilitate referral of students and families to appropriate district and community services.
- Participate in ongoing professional growth.
- Administer medications, treatments, and procedures as directed by the student’s physician and district policy.
- Act as first responder for all student and staff medical emergencies during the school day.
- Train and supervise staff in delegated tasks.
- Provide health education for students, staff, and parents.
- Maintain and assure confidentiality of information.
- Inventory and request equipment and materials needed in assigned buildings for health care.
- Maximize instructional and nursing time.
- Participate in professional and/or community organizations.
- Comply with school district policies and operating procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.
- Work with:
Superintendent, Business Manager, Building Principals, Special Education Director.
- Inside and outside.
- Climatic Environment:
Climate controlled with some temperature variations; typically comfortable. - Hazards:
Occasional travel may expose to hazardous driving and walking conditions. - Work Year:
Contract year; duties performed between August 1 and June 30.
