Job OverviewPosition Title: Medication Assistant (MA)
Schedule: Part time, 8 Hours - Evening Shift (2pm-10:30pm)

Shift Requirements: Every other weekend/holiday required, additional night differential after 6pm, additional weekend differential.
Salary & Benefits: $19.50 - $28.00 per hour, $2,500 Sign on Bonus, $2.50/hr location premium.
Key ResponsibilitiesThe Medication Assistant (MA) is a caregiver who provides resident‑centered nursing care and daily living assistance to assigned residents under the supervision of a charge nurse. Key duties include:
- Providing assistance with bathing, toileting, grooming, dressing/undressing, vital sign monitoring, and psycho‑social support.
- Assisting with transfers, repositioning, and walking using appropriate techniques and equipment; providing passive range‑of‑motion exercises.
- Preparing food and creating a positive dining experience; assisting residents with meals and snacks.
- Administering prescribed medications as delegated by a licensed nurse, within scope of practice; documenting medication administration, behaviors, activities, dietary information.
- Collecting non‑invasive body fluid specimens and gathering vital signs.
- Performing housekeeping and laundry services to maintain living areas.
- Participating in wellness and recreational programs and encouraging resident participation.
- Participating in departmental/organization committees and task forces as needed.
Minimum requirements:
- High school graduate or GED preferred.
- Minimum age 18 preferred.
- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification required.
- State‑approved Certified Medication Assistant (CMA) course completion and certification required.
- Valid driver’s license and auto insurance may be required.
State‑specific certification details:
- For Iowa:
State Board of Nursing CNA, Certified Medication Aide/Assistant course. - For Minnesota:
Nursing assistant certification, 75‑hour course, Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry, Trained Medication Assistant course. - For North Dakota:
State Board of Nursing CNA;
Certified Medication Aide/Assistant course;
Medication Assistant I for Assisted Living/Basic Care or Medication Assistant II for skilled nursing. - For South Dakota:
State‑approved Certified Medication Aide (CMA) course; CMA certification with State Board of Nursing. - Good Samaritan and Sanford facilities: state required certified/trained medication aide certification (CMA or TMA) and active Certified Nursing Assistant registration in state of practice.
Must satisfactorily complete yearly department‑specific competency testing and maintain a record of continuing education credits. Minimum of 12 hours annual continuing education based on state requirements.
