Kern Community College District accepts applications for part‑time, hourly faculty pools on a continuous basis. Qualified applicants who meet the minimum requirements will be contacted immediately if a need arises. Applications remain active for up to two years.
This position is for a part‑time, hourly adjunct instructor. The starting salary range is $67.00 per hour; the hourly rate may vary based on assignment type and the Lecture Hour Equivalent (LHE) formula.
Representative DutiesThe successful applicant will be expected to provide instruction in a full range of Anthropology courses.
- Participate in student recruitment and articulation of transfer programs for the Social Science department
- Maintain subject matter currency
- Develop and revise curriculum
- Use computer and multimedia technology
- Participate collegially in departmental, college, and discipline‑specific professional activities
The assignment may include teaching at multiple campus sites, day, evening, or weekend classes, large classes, distance‑learning classes, and classes for incarcerated students.

- Master’s in Anthropology or Archaeology
- OR Bachelor’s in either field AND Master’s in Sociology, Biological Sciences, Forensic Sciences, Genetics, or Paleontology
- OR Possession of a valid credential authorizing full‑time teaching of Anthropology at the California Community College level
- OR Equivalent qualifications under CA Community College standards
- Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of diverse student backgrounds
- Degrees and credits from accredited institutions; foreign degrees evaluated by a NACES or ACEI member
- Ability to work effectively with colleagues in an innovative, inclusive environment
- Ability to work with students of varying skills, motivations, academic, and vocational goals
- Ability to develop curriculum across modalities
- Ability to participate in recruitment and articulation activities with local schools, colleges, and universities
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Demonstrated subject‑matter currency
- Ability to assess student learning outcomes
- Knowledge of computers and willingness to adopt new technologies
- Commitment to the California community college mission
