Department: Visual & Performing Arts (VPA)
Provide instruction in a full range of art courses, which may include teaching at off‑campus sites; day, evening, or weekend classes; large classes; distance learning; and multiple teaching methodologies.
Other duties include:
- Participation in student recruitment and articulation of transfer programs for the Visual and Performing Arts department;
- Maintaining subject‑matter currency;
- Developing and revising curriculum;
- Using computer and multimedia technology;
- Collegial participation in departmental, college, and discipline‑specific professional activities.
- Master’s degree in Fine Arts, Art, or Art History; OR
- Bachelor’s degree in any of the above AND Master’s degree in humanities; OR
- Possession of a valid credential authorizing full‑time teaching of Art at the California community college level; OR
- Equivalent education, experience, or accomplishments, with an equivalence form submitted when applicable.
Additional requirements:
- Demonstrated sensitivity to diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students;
- Degrees and credits from accredited institutions (Title V Section 53406); and
- Work screening will be conducted by a screening committee, which reserves the right to limit interview offers.
- Ability to work effectively and harmoniously with colleagues in a diverse environment;
- Ability to effectively work with students of varied skills, motivations, and goals;
- Ability to develop curriculum across modalities;
- Ability to participate in recruitment and articulation activities with local schools, colleges, and universities;
- Effective oral and written communication skills;
- Maintenance of subject‑matter currency;
- Assessment of student learning outcomes;
- Knowledge of computers and willingness to explore new technologies beneficial to the program;
- Commitment to the California community college mission.
