Job Summary

Adjunct Instructor – Sociology (Full Course Load, Part‑time)

Location:

East Kern (Rising Scholars Program). Salary: $67.00 hourly.

Job Type: Temporary – Adjuncts. Term:
As needed.

Representative Duties

Instruction in a full range of Sociology courses for community college students, including day, evening, weekend, large classes, distance learning, and classes for incarcerated students. Participation in student recruitment and articulation of transfer programs for the Social Science department; maintenance of subject‑matter currency; development and revision of curriculum; use of computer and multimedia technology; collegial participation in departmental, college, and discipline‑specific professional activities.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s in Sociology.
  • OR Bachelor’s in Sociology and Master’s in Anthropology, any ethnic studies program, social work, or psychology.
  • OR possession of a valid credential authorizing full‑time teaching of Sociology at the California Community College level.
  • OR the equivalent. Certain combinations of education, experience, and other accomplishments may be judged as equal.
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
  • Degrees and credits must be from accredited institutions (Title V Section 53406). Foreign degrees must be evaluated by an evaluation service.
Knowledge and Abilities
  • Work effectively and harmoniously with colleagues in an environment that promotes innovation, teaching, learning, and service to a diverse student population.
  • Work with students with a wide range of skills, motivations, academic, and vocational goals.
  • Develop curriculum, including curriculum delivered via different modalities.
  • Participate in recruitment and articulation activities with local schools, colleges, and universities.
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Maintain subject matter currency.
  • Assess student learning outcomes.
  • Knowledge of computers and willingness to explore new technologies that would benefit the program.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to the California community college mission.
