Government Relations Manager/Public Affairs Advisor
Join the Clean Energy Revolution. This role supports the development and implementation of engagement plans that result in favorable policy and infrastructure project outcomes primarily in Kern County and parts of Kings County. The advisor builds and maintains relationships with key stakeholders, including government officials, community leaders, and business associations, to drive favorable outcomes.
Key responsibilities include:
- Engage with a broader set of officials and maintain existing relationships; lead smaller strategic relationship building projects focusing on select SCE initiatives.
- Propose and shape content and topics of discussion, ensuring relevance to business activities; engage directly with government officials at gatherings.
- Prepare and proofread correspondence, forms and other documents; coordinate communication between Government Affairs office and internal stakeholders.
- Manage sections of reports; review data for accuracy and ensure reports meet all criteria set by LDA and FEC.
- Draft and deliver reports and briefing notes for senior management outlining issues that may impact company operations and project developments.
- Develop multiple pieces of policy content ensuring coherence and consistency; engage with internal and external stakeholders to refine content.
- Implement and act on opportunities to streamline administrative processes associated with managing the office.
- Support outreach to industry lobbying coalitions on priority issues.
- Participate in Incident Management Team (IMT) duties as required, including on-call duty, extended shifts, and emergency response.
- Ensure protection of company assets, including physical, financial, and cybersecurity assets, and manage private customer data with highest standards of conduct.
Minimum qualifications:
- Seven or more years of experience working in public affairs, government relations, or community relations.
Preferred qualifications:
- Ability to follow Edison safety protocols and safe work practices.
- Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Political Science, Business, or related field.
- Experience managing candidate, ballot measure or issue advocacy campaigns.
- Experience managing infrastructure and public involvement activities.
- Experience working closely with local governments.
- Strong strategic, analytical, and planning skills.
- Effective decision making, results delivery, and team building.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills with strong attention to detail.
- Experience in the energy industry.
- Ability to analyze, summarize and recommend ideas and concepts to senior management in a clear, concise, persuasive manner.
- Strong ethics and people skills, and ability to manage stress and engage in continuous learning.
- Strong organizational skills and initiative; ability to interface and collaborate with partners to secure stakeholder buy-in.
- Ability to handle and support multiple projects concurrently.
- Familiarity with social media tools for monitoring and engaging stakeholders.
Additional information:
- This position’s work mode is hybrid. Employees will report to an SCE facility for a set number of days with the option to work remotely on remaining days. Unless otherwise noted, employees must work and reside in California. Work mode can be changed based on business needs.
- Qualified applications with arrest or conviction records will be considered under the Los Angeles County Fair Chance Ordinance for Employers and the California Fair Chance Act.
- This position will require reporting to SCE’s Service Center in Tehachapi, CA. Reporting to other SCE facilities in Kern County may be considered based on home location.
- Position requires up to 30% travel and field work across the SCE service territory.
