The Family Specialist works directly with youth and families to model positive behavior and implement targeted behavioral interventions to enhance stability, safety, and well‑being. This includes working directly in the family’s home and community to provide support and interventions.
Schedule:
This is a part‑time position. The schedule is about 5–10 hours per week, with some occasional evening and weekend hours. The opportunity for more hours may be available in the future as the number of families in the program increases.

- Benefits include paid time off (PTO) and participation in our 401(k) plan
- Paid holidays when your schedule is 15+ hours a week
- Mileage reimbursement for business miles driven
- Enhance your knowledge and skills by working alongside a committed team of professionals to learn cutting‑edge, evidence‑based treatment modalities
- Work with a great team of people who care about each other and our mission to help youth and families find hope and healing
- Work directly with youth and families in their home and community to develop positive relationships and implement the plan of care
- Model positive behavior and implement targeted behavioral interventions to promote stabilization in the home and community
- Provide skill‑building interventions for the youth and family to improve their behavioral outcomes
- Participate in a family‑centered, strength‑based, culturally sensitive planning process for creating individualized plans of care
- Support youth to participate effectively in child and family team (CFT) meetings
- Implement strengths‑based behavior plans with individualized strategies that include supportive linkage to the community and school
- Maintain case files for assigned youth and families
- Transport youth to appointments and community resources
We are seeking candidates with an associate’s degree in a behavioral science‑related field (or substantial coursework completed toward an AA degree), and who have one year of experience working with high‑risk youth (preferred). Candidates with “lived experience” with foster care and adoption will also be considered.
Important NoteQualified candidates must complete a criminal background clearance through the California Department of Justice and FBI to ensure eligibility for employment, as well as a pre‑employment physical and TB test.
This position requires a valid driver’s license, auto insurance and reliable transportation as driving is an essential job function. Family Specialists are responsible for tasks such as visiting client homes, transporting youth, engaging with community partners, often in locations not easily accessible by alternative transportation methods. Koinonia Family Services is an equal‑opportunity employer.
