Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Earthwork Estimator to join our growing team. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive estimates for grading, excavation, site development, and heavy civil construction projects. The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of earthwork operations, construction methods, and estimating principles, with the ability to manage multiple bids while working in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities- Prepare complete and accurate cost estimates for grading, excavation, site development, and heavy civil projects.
- Review plans, specifications, geotechnical reports, and bid documents to determine project requirements.
- Perform quantity takeoffs for earthwork, grading, excavation, import/export, and related scopes of work.
- Develop labor, equipment, material, trucking, and subcontractor cost estimates.
- Solicit, evaluate, and compare subcontractor and supplier quotations.
- Identify project risks, constructability concerns, and value engineering opportunities.
- Coordinate with project managers, superintendents, and operations staff during bid preparation.
- Attend pre-bid meetings and site walks as needed.
- Prepare bid proposals and ensure all required documentation is complete and submitted on time.
- Maintain estimating databases and historical cost information.
- 3+ years of estimating experience in earthwork, grading, excavation, or heavy civil construction.
- Strong knowledge of grading, excavation, mass earthwork, demolition, and site development.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and civil engineering plans.
- Experience performing quantity takeoffs and developing detailed cost estimates.
- Proficiency with estimating software and Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with field and office personnel.
- Ability to manage multiple estimates and meet strict bid deadlines.
- Experience with public works and prevailing wage projects.
- Familiarity with GPS machine control, earthwork modeling, and quantity software.
- Experience with HCSS Heavy Bid, AGTEK, Bluebeam, or similar estimating and takeoff software.
Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field is a plus but not required.
