Mixer (I/II) — Manufacturing (Soft Chew)
The Mixer role is a specialized production position responsible for the accurate staging, preparation, and mixing of materials to support a safe, efficient manufacturing process. This position is essential to meeting production goals and product quality standards and requires reliable, consistent, and predictable attendance. Mixers follow exact batch/formulation specifications, maintain a clean work area, and support quality and safety expectations throughout the operation.
WhatYou'll Do (Essential Functions)
Mixer I:
- Stage ingredients (powders and liquids) in preparation for mixing
- Sift and mix materials according to batch, formulation, and compounding sheet instructions
- Identify raw material names and quantities and assist in the weighing process
- Verify materials match batch sheet requirements, including names and part numbers
- Support Mixer II in production processes within the Soft Chew department
- Monitor totes and hoppers to prevent overfilling and maintain safe operation
- Clean and sanitize machinery, room cells, and equipment (e.g., buckets, totes)
- Assist in other production rooms as needed
Mixer II:
- Perform all responsibilities of Mixer I
- Program machines for mixing sequences and operate mixing equipment within the Soft Chew department
- Monitor and evaluate product quality consistently during processing
- Maintain and manage all required process paperwork, demonstrating full understanding of documentation requirements
- Recognize product characteristics such as appearance and texture through hands-on experience
- Train and guide other Mixers, providing direction and support on processes and expectations
- Ability to average numbers to determine average weight
- Strong ability to multi-task and stay organized in a production environment
- Must be able to remain alert and focused throughout the shift
- Ability to become forklift certified and maintain certification
- Ability to follow directions precisely and adhere to compounding/batch instructions
- Ability to work with minimal supervision while maintaining quality and safety standards
Preferred Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Experience in a manufacturing environment producing food or nutritional supplements (preferred)
- Knowledge of quality assurance practices (preferred)
- Lift/retrieve items 0–50 lbs without assistance, 50–100 lbs with assistance, and 100+ lbs with mechanical assistance
- Push/pull up to 300 lbs with or without assistance
- Walk/stand/move for 4–7+ hours per day
- Frequent stair/step ladder use; work may occur at elevated stations
- Forklift operation requires use of foot pedals and mechanical hand levers
- Vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception, with focus adjustment (with or without eyewear)
- Repetitive upper-body motion (hands/wrists/elbows/shoulders) for approximately 8 hours/day
- Additional movements may include bending, stooping, squatting, crawling, pushing/pulling, twisting, reaching, working in awkward positions, and climbing ladders
- Exposure to varying indoor/outdoor conditions, including extreme temperatures (heat/cold), dust, wind, and precipitation
- Use of natural ingredients and chemicals; some substances (undiluted, diluted, mixed, etc.) may cause injury/illness if not handled properly or if an individual has allergies
- Moderate to high noise levels due to machinery, forklifts, and equipment
- Mixer I to Mixer II progression with increased equipment responsibility (programming/operation), documentation ownership, and product-quality oversight
- Opportunity to build skills in quality practices, batch documentation, and equipment operation
- Ability to earn and maintain forklift certification, expanding production capability and value within the department
