Position: Associate Division Accountant (Payroll Focus) Tempe, AZ

Position Summary

The Junior Accountant (Division) primarily e nsure s accurate and timely processing of assigned financial transactions which may include accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and any other transactions as required of the business. Supports tracking of purchase orders and processes payments that come into the company's accounting department from suppliers or customers.

Position Details
  • Responsible for receiving, processing, and verifying invoices related to accounts payables.
  • Ensure all tasks relating to payroll processing such as: collecting employees' timesheets and payroll data, calculating wages, issuing statements, detailing earnings, and preparing paychecks.
  • Establish and maintain accurate and appropriate records to ensure data integrity and currency. Research and resolve straightforward accounting discrepancies and irregularities in a timely manner. Elevate more complex issues for resolution.
  • Follow appropriate policies and procedures to assure that Southland maintains compliance with all state and federal laws as well as Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  • Respond to internal and external customer inquiries in a timely manner.
Qualifications
  • Basic accounting knowledge. Prefer certificate from college or technical school and/or up to 12 months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
  • Able to analyze and resolve basic issues. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Computer proficiency and technical aptitude with intermediate level ability to utilize MS Word, Excel, Power Point, etc. COINS experience a +++
  • Manages difficult or emotional customer situations; responds promptly to customer needs; responds to requests for service and assistance.
  • Speaks clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations; listens and gets clarification.
  • Demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness; looks for ways to improve and promote quality; monitors own work to ensure quality.
  • Ability to adapt and respond to the changing environment and to constructively create opportunities for change through active participation. Changes approach or method to best fit the situation; able to deal with frequent change, delays, or unexpected events.
  • Follows instructions, responds to management direction; takes responsibility for own actions; keeps commitments.
  • Undertakes self-development activities; asks for and offers help when needed.
