Overview
The Senior Cost Accountant is responsible for reviewing and analyzing project costs and budgets with Division Managers to ensure accurate financial presentation. The role determines risk factors, presents findings to Finance Management, mentors junior Cost Accounting staff, prepares revenue forecasts, supports system development (Oracle PM tools, finance forms, etc.), and assists in developing and maintaining cost accounting systems. The accountant prepares subsidiary accounting and financial documents for divisions, cost/statistical reports for corporate management, financial data for bid proposals, performs internal audits, and helps Project Management resolve costing issues.
The role also involves travel to regional offices to support operations, conduct month‑end reviews, and train operations staff on finance procedures and systems.
- Review and analyze project costs and budgets with Division Managers.
- Determine risk factors and present findings to Finance Management.
- Mentor junior members of the Cost Accounting Department.
- Review, analyze, and prepare company revenue forecasts for executive management.
- Support development of systems and procedures (Oracle PM tools, finance forms, etc.).
- Assist in development, implementation, and maintenance of cost accounting systems related to job costs and budgets.
- Prepare subsidiary accounting and financial documents for divisions including CACs, backlog, invalid time reports, and budgets.
- Prepare cost/statistical reports for corporate management.
- Prepare financial data for inclusion in bid proposals and similar packages.
- Perform internal audits.
- Assist Project Management in resolving costing issues.
- Travel to regional offices to support operations, conduct month‑end reviews, and train staff on finance procedures and systems.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, or related discipline.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in financial management and general accounting or equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Thorough knowledge of standard accounting procedures, company policies, and federal, state, and local requirements.
- Advanced professional level capable of handling a variety of difficult and unique problems.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel) with Oracle preferred.
- Strong analytical, data‑gathering, and reporting skills.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks, changing priorities as necessary.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Self‑motivated, proactive, and an effective team player.
- Ability to interact professionally with all levels of employees, vendors, and clients.

Up to 20% travel expected.
Working ConditionsGeneral work environment – sitting for long periods, standing, walking, typing, carrying, pushing, bending. Work is conducted indoors with fluorescent lighting and air conditioning; noise level low to medium, may be loud on the job site. Occasional lifting up to 30 lbs.
