Position: Classification & Compensation Analyst (Short-Term)

Job Summary

This position plays an important role in advancing the Maricopa Community Colleges District classification and compensation initiatives by developing and revising job classification specifications. Reviewing job functions and levels, ensuring standards are accurately defined and aligned with organizational requirements, legal compliance, and market conditions. The position will also perform some data analysis to support pay structures, equity reviews, system integrity, and decision-making recommendations.

Based on business needs, this position may be assigned to perform any combination of a broader range of classification and compensation functions consistent with the job classification specification, including position management, policy and program research, stakeholder consultation, and preparation of reports and/or other deliverables.

This is a short-term assignment with a projected end date of 06-30-2027, with renewal based on

available funds and the needs of MCCCD.

Essential Functions

It is anticipated that this position will be assigned to perform the following duties:

75% – Developing and revising job classification specifications, including:

Analyzing essential functions, distinguishing levels of work complexity and autonomy, and ensuring alignment with organizational standards, legal compliance, and market conditions.

25% – Performing a wide range of compensation and data analysis functions, including:

Conducting market research, updating salary structures, reviewing pay equity, forecasting and modeling, and facilitating pay adjustments.

  • Analyzing and validating HR data for accuracy and insight
  • Administering and supporting classification and compensation systems and records to ensure data integrity and operational effectiveness.
  • Researching, developing, and communicating policy and program recommendations while providing technical guidance to stakeholders.

However, based on the business needs, this position may be assigned any combination of duties consistent with the classification specification including, but not limited to:

  • Conducting job analyses and maintaining classification specifications, ensuring essential functions, levels, and standards are accurately documented and aligned across the organization.
  • Performing compensation analyses, including conducting market research, updating salary schedules, reviewing pay equity, forecasting and modeling, and facilitating pay adjustments.
  • Analyzing, validating, and interpreting HR data, identifying discrepancies, producing visualizations, and preparing reports and recommendations to support decision-making.
  • Administering and supporting classification and compensation processes and systems, including managing positions, maintaining records, ensuring data integrity, and troubleshooting HRIS issues.
  • Researching, developing, and communicating policy, procedure, and program recommendations, providing technical guidance and consultation to stakeholders, and supporting project initiatives.
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution and two (2) years of work experience involving the administration, analysis, and/or support of classification or compensation programs, projects, and/or initiatives or two (2) years of experience an performing data or business analysis which includes responsibilities such as data interpretation and visualization, data validation, organizational evaluation, modeling and forecasting, operational or market analysis, and/or analytical reporting.

Note:

The required two (2) years of experience may come from any combination of the areas listed. Data or business analysis work experience may come from HR and/or non-HR roles.

OR

An equivalent combination of the education and/or experience as described above sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation, may be considered.

Desired Qualifications
  • Prior classification and/or compensation experience in either Higher Ed, Public and/or Municipal government.
  • One (1) year of relevant full-time MCCCD experience during the previous two (2) years
Special Working Conditions

Positions in this class typically require: keyboarding, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.

Sedentary Work:Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects including the human body.

Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time.

Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
