Position Summary
Okland is seeking a tenured MEP Superintendent to lead the coordination and field installation of MEP systems, guiding the complex buy‑out process and ensuring high quality standards are exceeded. The ideal candidate has deep knowledge of mechanical systems and experience integrating them into hospital, clean room, laboratory, and similar construction projects.
ResponsibilitiesEssential Duties and Responsibilities Management and Supervisory Responsibilities
- Supervise and oversee assigned projects.
- Assist the Preconstruction Manager, MEP Manager, and onsite Project Management Team.
- Handle personnel issues that arise on assigned projects.
- Interface with the CxA to ensure the construction process meets expectations.
- Review MEP submittals and scopes of work for accuracy.
- Validate specification compliance of technical submittals from MEP subcontractors.
- Enforce the quality control plan.
- Assist in developing the MEP Construction and Commissioning Schedule.
- Oversee MEP installation and perform inspections of subcontractor product installation.
- Coordinate equipment startup and communicate startup dates with the CxA.
- Assist in the MEP punch‑list phase of the project.
- Coordinate with the superintendent on MEP trade progress.
- Lead weekly construction schedule meetings with the onsite superintendent to keep the project on track for commissioning goals.
- Work with the project team to establish goals and accountability.
- Attend staff meetings for coordination and resolution of critical issues, including reviewing RFIs, ASIs, CCDs, and potential schedule or cost impacts related to MEP.
- Maintain strong working relationships with subcontractor management teams.
- Lead weekly subcontractor construction meetings and communicate project deadlines.
- Professional license in Mechanical Engineering, MEP trade certification, or a Bachelor's degree in Construction Management.
- 5–10 years of commercial mechanical construction experience, managing and overseeing complex building systems:
- Plumbing and piping (water distribution, drainage, gas).
- HVAC (heating, ventilation, air conditioning).
- Fire protection and suppression (sprinklers, standpipes).
- Fire alarm and life safety systems.
- Temperature control and building automation.
- OSHA 30‑Hour Certification required.

- Proficiency in skilled construction, maintenance, and repair tasks.
- Advanced understanding of construction scheduling and cost control.
- Effective communication with customers, vendors, and employees at all levels.
- Ability to lead and manage teams.
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and multitasking skills.
- Proactive risk planning to meet or exceed deadlines.
- Problem‑solving skills and adaptability to limited standardization.
- Maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.
- Proficient in MS Excel, MS Word, and MS Outlook.
Successful performance requires the ability to sit, walk, talk, hear, use hands for fine and gross tasks, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds. Exposure to construction sites, varying weather, and noise levels ranging from moderate to loud is expected. The position may involve operating a rough‑terrain forklift and long hours on uneven surfaces. Reasonable accommodations may be provided for qualified individuals with disabilities.
Hazards include extreme heat and cold, moving equipment, mechanical parts, heavy machinery, lasers, powder‑acted tools, electrical equipment, fumes, and other potential dangers. The role is safety‑sensitive; a lapse in attention can result in serious injury or death.
