Manager of Construction – Data Center Construction

Overview: The Manager of Construction will lead the planning, budgeting, and execution of new Amazon data center builds and capital projects. They serve as the owner’s representative on site, overseeing construction vendors, contractors, and ensuring that scope, schedule, quality, and cost targets are met while adhering to safety and security standards.
Key Responsibilities- Interface directly with construction general contractors during bidding, award, execution, and close‑out phases.
- Conduct negotiations and evaluate bids/proposals with detail and accuracy.
- Create construction project scope and requests for proposals.
- Perform financial analysis of construction activities.
- Manage construction projects to increase data center resiliency and optimization.
- Conduct constructability reviews of electrical and mechanical designs for new or existing data centers.
- Oversee construction documents including submittal review, RFIs, change orders, and invoicing.
- Ensure construction quality control and report key metrics to management.
- Lead troubleshooting and root‑cause failure analysis for equipment issues.
- Act as a leader within the group and across internal and external teams supporting the data center.
- 2+ years of management experience.
- 4+ years of general contractor and vendor management work (RFP, bidding, change orders, quality control, RFI/submittal tracking) related to construction and project execution.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- Knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems involved in critical data center operations (feeder, transformer, generator, switch gear, UPS, ATS, PDU, chiller, HVAC, CRAC).
- Experience hiring, developing, and managing high‑performing technical teams.
- Experience in construction project cost, schedule, and quality management.
- Knowledge of building codes and regulations including Life Safety, BOCA, NFPA, NEC, and OSHA.
- Experience owning the operation of a mission‑critical team or product.
- Experience with large‑scale technical operations or large‑scale compute farms.
- Experience with process improvement techniques such as Kaizen, Lean Manufacturing, or Six Sigma.
