Position: Project Architect I

Spur Design is looking for a Project Architect to support the design and delivery of thoughtful, well-coordinated projects. This role contributes to architectural design, documentation, and team collaboration across a variety of project types while being part of a firm that prioritizes people, teamwork, and creating spaces for the good of others.

This role is intended for a licensed Architect.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the definition, development, and implementation of creative concepts and solutions according to each project scope of work and client specification
  • Collaborate with the Director of Architecture, Project Manager, Architectural Designers, Interior Designers, and Sub-Consultants to supervise and coordinate overall design and technical delivery to develop a project from initial idea to profitable completion (Travel may be required)
  • Prepare and ensure the completion of fully coordinated Construction documents that comply with all project and code requirements while also instructing and providing direction to architectural designers and drafters.
  • Review all project correspondence, including meeting notes and other data, to stay fully informed on project status and developments
  • May require client interaction, independently or alongside a Project Manager
  • Participate in the review and QAQC of each assigned project submission
  • Track and organize review comments to ensure incorporation into the Design documents and compliance with Spur Design standards and quality control
  • Assist in the development of tools and standards related to the BIM process and internal Spur Design drafting standards
  • Aid in the operations of Spur Design offices in the maintenance of office systems including the updating of trade libraries and filing systems
  • Provide support in marketing, promotional, and business growth efforts
  • Collaborate with the Project Architect to coordinate sub-consultants and team members through all phases of production and drawing development, from concept to successful project completion (Travel may be required)
  • Assist the Project Lead and/or Architect in preparing and ensuring the completion of fully coordinated Construction documents that comply with all project and code requirements
  • May be required to interact with clients as needed
  • May lead internal team meetings on small projects as needed
  • Assist the Project Architect in the coordination of internal team members and Sub-Consultants at all production and drawing coordination levels as needed
  • Coordinate internal team meetings and design reviews as needed
  • Perform submittal review and respond to RFIs
  • Ensure project compliance with local, federal, and VA TIL standards
  • Verify compliance with Spur drafting and quality control standards
  • May conduct on-site observations and draft field reports for site investigations
  • Participate in mentorship programs to empower all Spur employees.
  • Collaboration with the Director of Architecture to optimize staffing and resource allocation across projects
  • Demonstrate professionalism and represent Spur with integrity in all settings
Qualifications
  • 3-6 years of professional experience (licensed)
  • Registered Architect for 0-5 years
  • Must hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture
  • NCARB certification preferred
  • High proficiency in applicable BIM and CAD software(s)
  • Ability to lead and guide the production of Construction documents
  • Present a portfolio of completed designs
  • Experienced in design software including but not limited to AutoCAD and Revit
  • Strong creative design skills with ability to implement unique solutions
  • Excellent time management skills - must be able to work on multiple projects at the same time while maintaining tight project schedules
  • Possess good customer service skills, along with communication and interpersonal skills between the architectural team and consultants
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting construction documents
  • Ability to generate field reports and deliver to team members
  • Provide technical guidance to Architectural interns or Designers
