Job Description & How to Apply Below
The College of Nutrition at Sonoran University of Health Sciences is actively seeking a Subject Matter Expert (SME) to assist in the development of the 6-week, 2.0 credit, online course, Human Anatomy and Physiology I, and the 6-week, 3 credit, online course, Human Anatomy and Physiology II.
These courses are offered sequentially in the first quarter of the MS Clinical Nutrition (MSCN), MS Applied Clinical Nutrition (MSACN), and MS Nutrition Business Leadership (MSNBL) programs. Human Anatomy and Physiology I explores normal human anatomy and physiology across major organ systems. Students will examine the relationship between the structure and function of the human body, homeostasis, and the coordinated interactions that sustain human health.
The organization of the human body will be explored from the cellular and tissue levels through organ systems, with an emphasis on the integumentary, skeletal, muscular, and nervous systems. Human Anatomy and Physiology II continues to explore normal human anatomy and physiology across major organ systems with an emphasis on the gastrointestinal, endocrine, cardiovascular, lymphatic/immune, respiratory, urinary, and reproductive systems.
Upon completion of each course, students will be prepared to integrate anatomical and physiological principles into the practice of clinical nutrition.
Generally, Subject Matter Experts/Course Developers are expected to teach these courses at least once after development. A separate
Job Description will be available for the teaching position.
Subject Matter Experts within the College of Nutrition are critical to the success of Sonoran University's online programs. They are responsible for leveraging their subject-matter expertise to create and curate original, current, relevant, and evidence-based course content, as well as engaging learning experiences and assessments aligned with course objectives. Subject Matter Experts receive supervision and guidance from the dean and/or Program Director, along with instructional design support from Sonoran University's Instructional Support Team.
The course development process in the College of Nutrition is a team effort. Subject Matter Experts are responsible for developing course content, and the Instructional Support Team incorporates that content into Canvas, Sonoran University's Learning Management System.
Please note:
Course descriptions, objectives, and select course-level assessment plans that align with accreditation standards and Program Objectives have already been proposed for all program courses and therefore do not need to be developed by Subject Matter Experts. However, Subject Matter Experts are expected to recommend updates to course objectives upon initiating course development.
The ideal candidate will have expertise in and passion for the course subject area, possess experience in online classroom instruction, demonstrate experience in curriculum development and assessment, and have a passion for teaching.
Responsibilities:
- Develop original PowerPoint presentations with voice-over recordings that do not simply restate textbook content but bring it to life.
- Develop a course welcome video and an instructor welcome video,
- Create engaging and relevant assignments,
- Develop interactive discussion board topics that enable students to delve more deeply into the content while building community,
- Develop an instructional lesson plan for live weekly sessions,
- Develop assessments (and corresponding instructions and rubrics) to measure course objectives, and accreditation standards, and
- Identify evidence-based supportive resources such as multimedia materials and/or scholarly reading assignments.
