TITLE: Liaison - Native American Program

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Increase and improve parent, family and community engagement in the education of children. Coordinate parent, student and teacher programs that assist in building a bridge between the school and parents and/or guardians. Build a positive environment to facilitate communication between home and school.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Education and/or experience equivalent to High School Diploma or GED
  • One (1) year working in a culturally diverse setting working with parents/families and community members
  • Native American preference (Section 9114 (c) (2) of Part A, Title IX)
  • Ability to speak, read and write Spanish (preferred)
  • Valid Arizona Driver's License
  • ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following tasks, knowledge, skills, and other characteristics.     DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
    • Serve as a liaison between the school and the parents/families of the school.
    • Plan, implement and oversee parent/family activities, trainings and programs to improve student academic achievement and parent involvement.
    • Provide information to the parents/families in order to improve home-school communication.
    • Provide positive reinforcement to acknowledge student's academic growth.
    • Collect required federal forms on school sites or through home visits.
    • May assist school personnel in identifying student in need of supportive or special services.
    • May assist parents in completion of forms, questionnaires and other necessary documents to enroll students.
    • May coordinate and maintain community outreach projects/resources by participating and acting as lead on assigned committees.
    • May act as a liaison between social service agencies, District and parents.
    • May interpret written material and notices.
    • May translate between school personnel, students and parents.
    • May perform attendance verification or home visits as required by site.
    • Maintain records, calendar and contact log to account for time and services.
    • Maintain accurate records for compliance with District and federal guidelines.
    • Prepare periodic and ad hoc reports as required.
    • Attend school liaison meetings with other district school liaisons.
    • Attend parent meetings, conferences and workshops.
    • Perform related duties as assigned by the building administrator related to parent/family engagement and/or implementation of the school wide plan.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.
    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS:
    • Knowledge of principles, practices and methods of acting as a liaison
    • Knowledge of district policies and procedures
    • Knowledge of culturally diverse population
    • Knowledge of community agencies available for referral
    • Knowledge of Native American communities and resources
    • Skill translating orally and in writing
    • Skill communicating verbally and in writing
    • Skill utilizing District designated computer hardware and software programs
    • Skill in maintaining and keeping confidential records and files
    • Ability to develop and maintain accurate records and reports for compliance with District, federal and state guideline
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with District personnel, parents and community
    • Ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment with diverse population of students, staff and parents
    • Ability to obtain and maintain NCI, First Aid and CPR certification, if required for position
    • Ability to drive from campus to campus and to student homes, if required for position
    WORKING CONDITIONS:

    Position is exposed to potential infectious disease in transporting and investigating students.

    Position may be exposed to potential physical harm from student and/or parents in dealing with attendance problems.

    PHYSICAL EFFORT:

    Position is generally sedentary.

    May require bending, stooping, standing, reaching

    Ability to move, lift, push or pull up to 40 pounds
