The Buseck Center for Meteorite Studies (BCMS) in the School of Earth and Space Exploration (SESE) at Arizona State University invites applications for a Research Professor position. Rank will be commensurate with experience and credentials. This is a non‑tenure track, benefits‑eligible position subject to annual renewal contingent upon satisfactory performance, availability of resources, and the needs of the unit. The anticipated start date is May 18, 2026 but a later start date is negotiable.

Please Note: It is expected that 25% of the successful candidate’s salary will come from extramural sources secured by the candidate.

Essential Functions
  • Assist the BCMS Director in supporting the mission of the Center.
  • Assist in collections-related activities.
  • Coordinate BCMS participation in education and public outreach activities and events.
  • Generate and maintain BCMS archives and records, publications, and informational materials, including website content.
  • Oversee public exhibits involving BCMS collection or educational materials, e.g., the meteorite gallery on 2nd floor of ISTB4 and other institutions.
  • Assist with any other Center‑related activities as required.
  • Develop an independent research program that supports the BCMS mission of creating and sharing new knowledge in meteoritics and allied sciences.
  • Secure 25% of salary from extramural sources.
Required Qualifications
  • A PhD in a physical science by date of appointment.
  • Evidence of original research in meteoritics or a closely allied field.
Desired Qualifications
  • Evidence of ability to procure research funding.
  • Evidence of educational outreach activities in support of meteoritics or a closely allied field.
  • Evidence of experience in collections management activities.
  • Demonstrated commitment to working with faculty, staff, students, and communities to advance the principles of the ASU Charter.
