The GAME School on the Tempe campus at Arizona State University invites applications for Faculty Associates to teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses online and/or on-campus in: game engine or media arts programming, visuals scripting in game engines, python programming for media arts, game physics and mathematics, game design and production fundamentals, and audio visual technologies.

These positions are one-semester appointments, part-time, non-benefits eligible with no tenure implications. A typical Faculty Associate course load is one to two classes per semester. Teaching duties include: preparing course materials, responding to and evaluating student work, and availability for one-on-one assistance (via weekly office hours for on-campus classes and electronically for online classes).

The number of courses is contingent upon needs, funding, and sufficient enrollment. Individuals hired as Faculty Associates may not hold multiple, non-benefits-eligible appointments at Arizona State University. Salary is based upon qualifications and assigned teaching load.

Anticipated start date is:
Fall 2026 or Spring 2027, session A, B and/or C

Essential Functions

The successful candidate(s) will teach in-person or online courses, prepare course materials, evaluate student work, and assist students. They are responsible for delivering course content through lectures, readings, discussions, and other teaching activities in accordance with the approved syllabus and academic standards. Faculty Associates foster an inclusive and engaging learning environment, support student success and provide timely, constructive feedback on assignments and assessments.

They maintain instructor presence, communicate effectively and responsively with students, staff, and faculty, and keep accurate course records in compliance with university policies. Faculty Associates are expected to be familiar with and adhere to ASU, Herberger Institute for the Design and the Arts, and School policies and procedures, collaborate professionally with colleagues, and continuously improve their instructional skills while staying informed about developments in their field.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and 4 years of industry experience for undergraduate courses

or

  • Master’s degree in relevant field and 2 years of industry experience for graduate courses
  • Evidence of effective teaching
Desired Qualifications
  • MFA or Ph.D. in relevant field by time of appointment
  • Record of scholarly publication and/or evidence of professional development in relevant field
  • Minimum of two years of post-secondary teaching experience
Working Environment
  • Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled classroom setting subject to extended periods of standing, lecturing, facilitating classroom activities
  • Frequently required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work
  • Occasional bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds
  • Occasional activities require ability to quickly change priorities which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts
  • Clearly communicate to perform essential functions
  • Regular use of standard office equipment including, but not limited to: computer workstation/laptop (keyboard, monitor, mouse), printer, copier, telephone and associated computer/technology peripherals
