AutoCAD Civil Design Specialist

The Tempe, AZ team of WSP USA, Inc. has an immediate career opportunity for an AutoCAD Civil Design Specialist to support our infrastructure operations. We are seeking an individual with good enthusiasm, strong communication and technical skills. The ideal candidate has strong work experience in AutoCAD Civil 3D, is dedicated to working in a team environment and is committed to quality products.

Primary focus for project work will be to prepare construction drawings for full site development improvements typical in the site development industry to include site grading, dry and wet buried utilities, above ground and overhead utilities, on-site drainage, drainage reports, on-site retention facilities, ingress/egress development, interior circulation designs, parking lot layouts for maximum capacities, establishment of finish floor elevations for new buildings, material quantity estimates and a solid working knowledge of local agency requisites for site developments.

• Collect, compile, and analyze data from the physical work site, surveys, blueprints, schematics, data, verbal or written specifications, technical drawings, rough sketches, diagrams, and other matrices to support drafting and design activities.
• Use 3D computer-aided design and drafting (CADD) software and work closely with engineers to resolve design details or discrepancies, and to prepare drawings
  -from general written or verbal instructions- which require a high degree of precision on projects of basic to moderate complexity and/or scope.
• Work with the project team to maximize the use of new or existing sites to meet client needs within a defined schedule.
• Create a wide range of preliminary to detailed design drawings for site developments that are unique in style and function.
• Prepare grading plan drawings for new or existing sites that require the understanding of earth contours, topographic survey data, proposed slopes and grades, section and detail design drawings for new or existing facilities.
• Prepare drainage plan drawings that include overland flows, site flows, drainage inlets, drainage flumes, drainage culverts, retention and detention ponds.
• Solid understanding of discipline-specific CAD standards.
• Follow standard practices to provide technical design assistance that accounts for the proper illustration, fit form, and function using geometric dimensioning, tolerance and quantity calculations, while ensuring the construction and maintainability of designs according to design standard specifications.
• Verify accuracy of calculations, design, change orders, interpretation of contract plans and specifications, recognizing moderate to slightly intricate construction or engineering problems and escalating any differences, errors, or technical problems for appropriate resolution.
• Work with cross-functional teams in executing project work.
• Assure plans adhere to city code, state and federal regulations.
• Prepare multiple versions of designs for review by engineer.
• Ensure the specification of dimensions, materials, and procedures for assigned projects, ensuring compliance with contract requirements.
• Work collaboratively with the engineer-in-charge and other technical professionals on assigned project phases, segments, checks, and tasks.
• Apply analytical techniques and software to solve moderately complex engineering issues on projects, or to modify or redesign existing designs in accordance with project standards and specifications.
• Engage in occasional contact with client and contractor personnel to schedule and coordinate project drafting and design support review.
