Job Description
The Lead Project Engineer will lead medium‑complexity projects with medium‑size teams (5‑15 members) and annual program/project cost budgets of $5M plus, for New Product Development (NPD), New Product Introduction (NPI)/Low‑Rate Initial Production (LRIP), and/or In‑Service Related (IRB) for Motion Control Systems (MCS) products, providing technical leadership for the program/project. The position reports to the Engineer Program Manager in the Mechanical Systems and Components division and is located in Tempe, AZ on a hybrid schedule.
Responsibilities- Program/project management to maintain, control, comply, and analyze cost, schedule, resource allocation, risks, and milestones to the Integrated Master Schedule (IMS)
- Cost Account Management (CAM) skills in the SAP environment
- Knowledge of system and component requirement analysis and decomposition
- Knowledge of control architecture and design
- Knowledge of physics‑based model development and system design
- Lead investigation of complex technical issues, root cause analysis, and corrective action, including planning, execution, and resolution
- Electro‑Mechanical systems Validation & Verification (V&V)
- Customer and supplier technical interface
- Excellent communication skills to provide clear, effective, efficient, and succinct communication of complex issues
- Work with functional leaders to prioritize resources and implement project objectives
- Proposal cost, schedule, and risk development and estimation to support existing programs/projects and new business opportunities
- Mentor less experienced or early‑career engineers
- Less than 10% domestic US travel and/or less than 2% international travel (if necessary)
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in a technical discipline such as engineering, sciences, technology, or mathematics
- Minimum six (6) years of engineering experience in complex aerospace systems
- Strong management operating system that facilitates communication
- Leadership skills—specifically decision making, driving results, and bias for action
- Utilization of Six Sigma and program management tools within the Integrated Product Development Systems (IPDS) framework
- Persuasive influence to accept new concepts, practices, and approaches
- Ensuring departmental core competencies include continuous PE skill development
- Understanding of business objectives and ability to interact with customers
- Business acumen—knowledge of current and emerging practices, methods, and information related to discipline and application within the industry
- Mechanical/Actuation Systems design and component controller integration
- Experience with system requirement flow down
- Experience developing motor‑driven actuation systems
- Experience with system requirement Validation and Verification (V&V)
- Experience with Earned Value Measurement System (EVMS)
- Certification as a Control Account Manager (CAM)
