Job Description
Provides technical assistance and guidance for multi‑site/phase due diligence, design, development, building, testing, and inspection of mechanical systems on infrastructure, building and construction projects in the public and private sector. Responsibilities include research, design, concept development, planning, installation, operation, maintenance, and optimal integration of automatic temperature control, air distribution, hydronic and plumbing systems, equipment and processes. Substantiates reports and documentation regarding installation, construction and operation specifications.
Ensures that responsibilities are delivered and adhered to with a level of quality that meets or exceeds industry standards for design, safety and functionality.
- Determine well‑defined methods for collecting, compiling and analysing data from the physical work site, surveys, blueprints, schematics, technical drawings, computer‑generated reports and other matrices for project development, design and construction.
- Perform professional mechanical engineering work and conduct research and inspections of proposed and existing site conditions, equipment, resources, building, infrastructure, usage and mechanical systems to determine conformance with applicable rules, standards, construction or operating permits.
- Develop construction and installation plans, specifications and cost estimates; prepare construction safety and phasing plans, and update infrastructure layout plans that require coordination with owners, other disciplines, sub‑consultants and clients.
- Incorporate advanced technology, modelling techniques, concept development, design requirements, load calculations and operating strategies to account for the proper installation and functioning of equipment and systems according to specifications; implement future‑ready solutions with mechanical engineering design standards.
- Verify site characteristics and provide technical assistance on various engineering, design and construction issues relating to automatic temperature control systems and specifications, air distribution (supply, return, exhaust), hydronic systems (chilled water, heating water, etc.) and plumbing systems (domestic water, waste, vent, storm, etc.).
- Work as an individual or as part of a cross‑functional team of engineers, planners and scientific professionals to execute project work on multiple concurrent projects, assist with laying out installation of equipment, calculating costs and quantities of material/equipment/labor, and ensure project work conforms with specifications, permit applications, schematics, compliance documentation and regulatory and technical analysis memos.
- Prepare data and visualisations such as tables, charts, accurate reports, sketches, calculations, technical drawings, spreadsheets and illustrations for the interpretation or presentation of data, findings or analyses.
- Maintain quality control standards and procedures for accurate and precise measurements, statistical analysis and reporting.
- Assist with development and scoping of medium‑sized projects.
- Provide guidance and training to entry‑level engineers.
- Prepare technical reports and presentations that explain research, findings and recommendations to improve, prevent, control, restore or address design and/or construction issues or opportunities.
- Assist in the analysis, evaluation and interpretation of data obtained during field investigations, offering input with developing action plans for moderate‑to‑high‑level risk installation, equipment operations and/or mitigation activities.
- Prepare and implement site Health and Safety Plans (HASPs).
- Comply with regulatory requirements pertaining to data integrity, documentation, procedures, training, monitoring systems and record compliance and retention.
- Interact with regulatory agencies, subcontractors and clients in a confident and professional manner.
- Remain current with latest mechanical engineering techniques and practices.
