Job Description
Honeywell Aerospace Materials Engineering (Mat Eng) is seeking an Advanced Materials and Process Engineer to support new and existing products including aerospace gas turbine engines used for propulsion and auxiliary power. This is a challenging, multi-dimensional role that requires the individual to perform at a high level while working multiple concurrent task assignments. The role combines a hands‑on role in the laboratory with a design and applications engineering role to support the manufacturing and design of Honeywell Aerospace components.
You will report directly to our Senior Engineering Manager, and you’ll work out of our Tempe, AZ location on a Hybrid work schedule.
In the laboratory role, the candidate will operate a wide variety of analytical equipment used to support metallurgical evaluations of Honeywell Aerospace components. The candidate is expected to be self‑motivated and support day‑to‑day operation of the Metals lab, including scheduling daily activities, developing & performing test processes and working with lab technicians to provide guidance and oversight to the technical staff.
In addition, they will provide interpretation of data/results to internal customers.
- Execute various projects to meet customer needs
- Support site programs in limited‑scope problem investigations, performing drawing reviews, specifying appropriate materials and processes as part of product design to ensure those meet both customer flow‑down and internal Honeywell requirements
- Participate in multi‑disciplinary technical teams and generate technical reports
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in a technical discipline such as science, technology, engineering, mathematics.
- 3+ years hands‑on experience with metallographic sample preparation techniques, including potting/sectioning, grinding/polishing, metallographs, hardness testing and digital microscopy.
- 3+ years experience working with metallic aerospace materials (nickel alloys, steels, aluminum alloys, titanium alloys).
- Experience in Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (EDS)
- Experience with Aerospace Materials & Processes
- Experience with Aerospace industry specifications and requirements (SAE, AMS, ATSM, etc)
- Experience with Aerospace NADCAP requirements
- Excellent communication skills – verbal and written
- Be well organized, detail oriented, and able to drive tasks to closure while working in a team environment
- Strong computer skills, especially Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project
