Job Summary

The Estimator II is a mid‑level professional responsible for preparing and completing bid documents and cost estimates for electrical construction projects. The role involves assembling construction costs by collecting and studying information, evaluating bid specifications and drawings, ensuring accurate bid presentations to senior leadership, and providing overall support for small‑ to medium‑sized projects under the guidance of a senior‑level estimator.

Responsibilities
  • Review proposal specifications and drawings to determine the scope of work and requirements.
  • Prepare estimates by calculating the complete takeoff of the scope of work and entering them into the computer estimating system; review the estimate printout for accuracy and completeness.
  • Identify qualified suppliers/subcontractors and solicit quotes.
  • Review quotes for completeness according to plans and specifications.
  • Itemize and quantify all incidentals necessary in preparing the bid packages, including sub‑contract work, equipment rental, tools, and supplies.
  • Provide guidance to personnel preparing the completion matrix discipline for assigned bids.
  • In conjunction with Senior Estimators, develop labor productivity and (installation unit costs where applicable) based on projected site conditions and historical data.
  • Compile and execute the scope of work, address technical requirements and pricing, and present them to the Lead Estimator, Estimating Manager, and/or Chief Estimator for the estimated bid package.
  • After the successful bid, meet with the project management team along with the senior‑level estimator to explain the estimate, scope of work, quotes, and offer aspects for successful transition of the project.
  • Ensure timely completion of all client‑required documents, including scope letter inclusions, exclusions, and clarifications for estimates.
  • Maintain files of working documents for backup to estimating assumptions and methodologies.
Qualifications & Skills
  • Advanced knowledge of the assigned discipline, construction technology, estimating techniques, and cost control.
  • Interpret computerized cost data and electrical systems.
  • Perform arithmetic calculations required for estimating.
  • Read and interpret engineering design drawings, specifications, and front‑end documents.
  • Identify and meet customers’ needs, expectations, and requirements.
  • Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of specific variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Proficient in using a computer and Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.).
  • Prioritize and manage multiple tasks, changing priorities as necessary.
  • Work under time pressure and adapt to changing requirements with a positive attitude.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Self‑motivated and capable of working independently as well as part of a team.
  • Interact effectively and professionally with all levels of employees, management, staff, vendors, and clients.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience estimating commercial construction projects, preferably in electrical construction.
  • Proficient in Accubid estimating.
  • Proficient in CAD or 3D software is preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field is required; a combination of education, training, and relevant experience may also be considered.
  • Up to 10% travel.

Working Conditions

General work environment – sitting for long periods; standing, walking, typing, carrying, pushing, bending. Work is conducted primarily indoors with varying environmental conditions such as fluorescent lighting and air conditioning; occasional exposure to outdoor weather conditions. Noise level is usually low to medium; it can be loud on the jobsite. Occasional lifting of up to 30 lbs.
