Amazon Leo is Amazon’s low Earth orbit satellite network. The success of Amazon Leo depends on the quality, reliability, cost, integration, throughput, and security of the products delivered. It is a fast‑paced, dynamic environment. As part of the Amazon Leo team, you will solve difficult problems where resolutions have high impact, and help create brand‑new launch site processes and standards. To be successful you need to be highly motivated, detail oriented, and maintain the highest standards of execution.

Responsibilities

Lead a team of technicians through satellite integration operations and support other final assembly areas. Work closely with other launch operations and satellite manufacturing teams. Implement test requirements, design and establish a payload processing facility satellite integration work cell, support facility and equipment planning, author procedures, implement process controls, and support continuous improvement.

  • Planning workstation layouts for satellite integration, optimized to reach the planned processing rate
  • Planning material flow and implementing manufacturing processes for satellite integration
  • Integrating satellites onto dispensers
  • Automated testing of satellites using various EGSE
  • Continuously improving satellite integration and test processes
  • Interfacing with facilities personnel to set up and work within a payload processing facility
  • Evaluating and improving takt time
  • Authoring and implementing work instructions and standard processes
  • Resolving anomalies and implementing corrective actions
  • Operating primarily on first shift, Monday‑Friday; off‑shift and weekend work may be required depending on production or launch schedules
  • Willing and able to perform extended travel up to 25% annually, domestically or internationally as needed
A Day in the Life

The Manufacturing Engineer will spend the majority of their day on the shop floor leading their team through satellite to dispenser mating operations. They will work with engineering, quality, and manufacturing teams to set up and maintain the satellite integration equipment, address root causes of failures, implement production control and optimization strategies, and apply best practices safely and repeatably, driving efficiency improvements and reducing non‑conformances.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, material science, physics or equivalent
  • Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/network development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
  • Experience with hardware/software integration and real‑time systems
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, material science, physics or equivalent
  • 2+ years of hardware design and validation of components, subsystems and systems experience
  • Knowledge of schematic design and debugging skills

The base salary range for this position is $96,600.00 – $ USD annually. Your Amazon package will include sign‑on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location. Amazon also offers comprehensive benefits, including health insurance (medical, dental, vision, prescription, Basic Life & AD&D insurance and option for Supplemental life plans, EAP, Mental Health Support, Medical Advice Line, Flexible Spending Accounts, Adoption and Surrogacy Reimbursement coverage), 401(k) matching, paid time off, and parental leave.
