Electrical Designer II

Overview

The position involves designing and preparing drawings for electrical systems on building projects, including code review, lighting calculations, lighting and receptacle layout, one-line diagrams, branch circuit, feeder, and service calculations, under the supervision of a licensed professional electrical engineer.

• Attend meetings with owners, clients, and/or architects as needed; prepare and distribute meeting notes.
• Conduct site surveys to determine existing facility conditions or proposed conditions.
• Assist the design team with coordination with other disciplines including architectural, mechanical, plumbing, fire protection, structural, and civil.
• Accompany senior staff/project manager on project site visits during construction to monitor progress and ensure conformance to design specifications, owner expectations, and building codes.
• Assist in preparing punch lists and project observations reports to note findings.
• Actively participate in in-house and external training to obtain knowledge in necessary technical areas.
• Participate in industry organizations and attend events, meetings, and activities.
• Uphold the organization's owner advocacy philosophy and core values.

• 2-year technical degree or associate degree in electrical-related field, or 4–5 years of experience as an electrical designer for an engineering or architectural/engineering design firm, or electrical program/course/classes at a community college, plus 2–4 years' experience as an electrician working for an electrical contractor, or journeyman electrician license.
• Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel), Revit, and AutoCAD.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Detail-oriented and able to tackle various ongoing projects in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent multitasking skills, with the ability to perform duties outside the scope of work when necessary.
