As an Electrical CAD Drafter (internally Engineering Support Specialist II), you will play a crucial role in the design, development, and sustainment of test equipment used across our engineering and manufacturing environments. With direction from test engineers, you will create and update detailed design documentation including schematics, wiring diagrams, and associated parts lists for electronic test equipment and cable harnessing.
Your work ensures that designs are accurate, manufacturable, procurable, and aligned with project requirements and industry standards. You will collaborate closely with test engineers, technicians, and cross‑functional partners to translate requirements into complete, production‑ready drawing packages. The ideal candidate is detail‑oriented, organized, and comfortable interacting with both engineering, fabrication, and procurement teams.
You will report to the Test Engineering Manager, and work out of our Tempe, AZ site on a hybrid work schedule.
Key ResponsibilitiesEmploy CAD tools to develop complete electrical drawing packages for:
Automated test equipment cabinets
Electronic control enclosures
Test bench setups
Custom cable harness assemblies
Create wiring schematics, connection diagrams, and harness drawings that meet industry standards and internal best practices.
Work with test equipment engineers to select, size, and lay out components such as controllers, power supplies, loads, instrumentation, switching hardware, and interconnect panels.
Assist in cable harness design, connector selection, and routing strategies.
Generate accurate and complete parts lists for all designed assemblies, ensuring components are manufacturable and procurable.
Visit lab or production areas to gather details from existing equipment to support as‑built drawings.
Collaborate with technicians during fabrication to resolve design questions and ensure build accuracy.
Maintain documentation libraries and support configuration control of drawing packages.
Support identification of alternatives for long lead/unavailable items
Support design reviews and incorporate feedback for continuous improvement
Minimum of 2 years of hands‑on experience in electrical drafting/design, or equivalent of education and training.
Electrical CAD program experience producing technical drawings.
Strong understanding of electrical schematics, connection diagrams, harnessing, and industrial wiring standards.
AutoCAD Electrical experience.
Strong attention to detail and quality assurance mindset
Ability to effectively prioritize and manage multiple projects
Experience working with electronic lab equipment and instrumentation
Familiarity with grounding techniques, safety considerations, and signal integrity concepts.
