What You Will Do:As a Trader II in the Taxable Trading Department, expectations are that you have a passion for capital markets, excellent risk management skills, and be able to make capital commitments with minimal oversight. Additionally, attention to detail is a must as your decisions can negatively impact our clients, while exposing the firm to significant regulatory, financial, and reputational risk.
Responsibilities include:- Ensure inventories align with firm research and portfolio guidance, leveraging new issues, bid wanteds, secondary purchases, client liquidations and external offerings, effectively identifying capital commitment opportunities and managing corresponding positions with moderate retail-structured trading flows and capital commitments
- Advanced application of capital markets analytics, trading strategies and risk management techniques
- Improve best execution and compliance with all firm and industry regulatory requirements
- Advanced application of internal and external trading systems (e.g. Bloomberg) and related tools
- Deliver client service excellence for branch-related inquiries, identifying trends and improving best practices accordingly
- Improve operational excellence initiatives
- Provide general training and guidance to other traders, including supply, pricing and inventory insights
- Build the depth and breadth of internal and external networks, including dealer relationships
- B.A./B.S. degree in business, economics, finance or a quantitative related field
- 3+ years of financial service experience required, capital markets preferred
- Series 7 and 66 required; additional desk specific licenses are needed within 6 months of hire (52, 55/57, CSI)
- Successful demonstration of problem‑solving techniques with a proficient level of authority complexity and risk
- Advanced knowledge of capital markets analytics, trading strategies and risk management techniques
- Advanced knowledge of internal and external trading systems and related tools, including but not limited to Bloomberg, DSTS and 3rd party electronic trading platforms
- Strong math skills; accuracy is important
- Capital markets experience
- Client Service and/or financial industry experience
- CFP, MBA, CFA, CPA or working towards designation(s)
- Proficiency in non‑trading applications or coding language (Microsoft Suite, Power BI, Tableau, VBA, SQL)
