Role OverviewThe Risk Treatment Specialist is a key position within Northern Trust’s Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) function, charged with overseeing issues management and risk treatment. Sitting within the 2nd line of defense, this specialist reports to the Head of Risk Treatment and plays an important role in governing issues management and risk treatment and related activities by establishing deep relationships with the 1st line of defense and other key stakeholders.
The core responsibilities encompass oversight of governance, program adherence, system integration, and thematic analysis. The role will support fostering a proactive approach to issues management across the lines of defense.
- Support sustaining and embedding issues management and risk treatment practices across lines of defense through adherence monitoring
- Maintain applicable ERM Policies, Standards, and Procedures for issues management and risk treatment
- Produce impactful and insightful thematic analysis to support proactive risk management
- Maintain monitoring and oversight of issues management, policy exceptions, and tracking and reporting on alignment with applicable ERM Policies and Standards
- Engage with Data & Technology teams and Risk Enablement team for relevant GRC tooling enhancements and bug remediation to ensure continued alignment to Policies and Standards
- Interact with risk treatment and issues management leadership across the organization to clearly articulate workflow requirements
- Work across the lines of defense to coordinate changes, provide review and challenge, and respond to audit and regulatory requirements
- 10+ years of Risk Management experience to include one of the following:
Operational Risk, Financial Risk, Cyber Resilience, Cybersecurity, Risk Management, IT Risk and Control, and/or IT Audit - Strong working knowledge of the inherent risks in the financial services industry
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in designing, training, and monitoring enterprise risk treatment practices, supporting effective implementation and sustainability
- Proven capability in high‑quality execution, including both independent execution, as well as influencing cross‑functional stakeholders to drive change
- Experience with risk treatment and issues management functions and industry tools to support the program (i.e. Service Now, Fusion, Coupa)
- The ability to think strategically, creatively, and logically to solve problems and drive risk management enhancements
- The ability to lead projects from conception through execution and sustainment, leveraging sound change management principles and technical capabilities to arrive at the optimal solution
- Analytical and communication skills required to summarize and analyze information
- Organizational skills required to coordinate risk related activities with peers and senior executives
- Advanced Microsoft Office 365 skills

Salary Range$108,965 – 185,155 USD
BenefitsSalary range is a good faith estimate of base pay.
