Overview

Chief Technology Officer (CTO) We are a leading national consumer finance company with a 15-year legacy of stability and success. Following our recent acquisition and the appointment of a new CEO, we are entering a transformative chapter. We are seeking a visionary and results-oriented Chief Technology Officer (CTO) to lead a critical technology transformation for a financial services company, a leading provider of consumer auto loans in a $400 billion category.

This is a turnaround role, demanding a strategic leader capable for shifting our technology paradigm from a vendor-dependent model to one driven by proprietary technology delivering differentiated customer experiences.

The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of architecting and building high performing tech stacks with appropriate security and scalability. Knowledge of consumer lending environments is essential and auto is highly preferred. Ability to recruit and inspire high-performing development teams capable of moving fast. You ll be responsible for defining, architecting, and executing our technology roadmap, fostering a culture of technical competence to build smart solutions, and positioning our company at the forefront delivering unique customer experiences.

Responsibilities
  • Technology Transformation & Strategy:
    • Lead the architectural design and development of scalable, secure, and robust technology solutions for our consumer auto loan platform.
    • Implement a technology roadmap to enhance our product offerings and operational efficiencies.
    • Develop AI infrastructure to provide fast-to-market solutions.
  • Data Architecture & Management:
    • Upgrade the current data environment for efficient access.
    • Establish a new data warehouse.
  • Establish an Engineering Team:
    • Recruit for a new engineering team.
    • This engineering team will have responsibilities for the development roadmap.
  • AI & Innovation Leadership:
    • Develop the infrastructure to enable broad utilization of AI agents for optimizing internal workflows and enriched customer experiences.
    • Support the development of AI capabilities across the organization, with an initial focus on improving customer experience and reducing costs (e.g. fraud detection, process automation).
  • Team Leadership & Development:
    • Lead the technology team to accomplish roadmap milestones.
    • Manage the delivery timeline and scope alignment.
    • Recruit talent gaps.
  • Operational Excellence & Cost Reduction:
    • Partner with the business prioritizing and developing proprietary workflows and integrations within the auto retail ecosystem.
    • Implement robust security measures and ensure compliance with all relevant financial regulations.
    • Develop optimal solutions for technical roadblocks.
  • Collaboration & Communication:
    • Partner closely with executive leadership, product, and business teams to align technology initiatives with overall business goals.
    • Communicate complex technical concepts clearly and effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
    • Clearly communicate roadmap initiatives timing and roadblocks.
Qualifications
  • US Citizenship:
    Applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in technology leadership roles, with at least 5 years as a CIO/CTO or similar position responsibilities.
    • Experience with in consumer lending or credit-based Fintech.
    • Proven experience in leading successful technology start-ups or transformations.
    • Demonstrated success in building, scaling, and leading engineering teams.
    • Extensive experience with full software development lifecycle on modern technology stacks.
    • Hands-on experience or deep understanding of AI/ML technologies and their application in real-world business scenarios.
  • Technical Acumen:
    • Strong understanding of modern software architectures, cloud platforms, and data management systems.
    • Ability to design scalable architecture.
    • Familiarity with data privacy, security, and regulatory compliance requirements in the financial sector.

    • Exceptional leadership, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills.
    • Ability to inspire and motivate teams in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
    • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills.

Location & Work Schedule

Location:

This role offers a hybrid work schedule and is preferred for candidates based in or willing to commute to our offices in Tempe, AZ, or Coppell, TX.

Base compensation commensurate with experience and aligned to the market. Competitive benefits and 401K matching. This is a key role for the business and includes participation in the Executive equity option pool.
