Job Title: Systems Administrator

Location: Tempe, Arizona

Reports To: IT Manager

Job Summary

University Mechanical & Engineering Contractors (UMEC) is a wholly owned subsidiary of EMCOR Group Inc. The Systems Administrator will support, troubleshoot, and maintain the company’s computer servers and networks for 200+ users. At least 4‑5 years of experience in server‑domain system management and a bachelor’s degree in computer science or information technology are required.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Work on helpdesk tickets and provide quality customer service to staff and clients.
  • Design, install, configure, and test Microsoft Windows Server operating systems with all roles and features.
  • Configure, monitor, and resolve issues on current versions of Windows Server, including Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, IIS, and other roles.
  • Install, configure, maintain, and upgrade Microsoft Windows Server operating systems and applications; troubleshoot server hardware and software problems.
  • Develop, write, update, and maintain computer programs or software packages for specific jobs such as Active Directory and domain related tasks, inventory tracking, data retrieval, or equipment control.
  • Create and maintain VMware hosts and guest operating systems.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot problems with server hardware and application software.
  • Configure and maintain Veeam backups.
  • Maintain an intranet site using up‑to‑date technologies.
  • Administer computer networks and computing environments, including hardware, systems software, and applications.
  • Design, configure, and test computer hardware, networking software, and operating systems.
  • Recommend changes to improve systems and network configurations and determine hardware or software requirements.
  • Maintain logs related to network functions and repair records.
  • Research new technology and recommend implementation.
  • Establish and document standards and procedures, maintain inventory of devices, vendors, and backup systems.
  • Provide flexibility to coordinate schedules; work after normal business hours or on weekends if required.
  • Perform performance network analysis and troubleshooting.
  • Work off‑hours for project work as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Information Technology (preferred).
  • Minimum of 4 years’ experience in server‑domain system management supporting 200+ users (5 years preferred).
  • Experience with scripting or programming.
  • Microsoft certifications preferred.
  • Proficiency with VMware platforms.
  • Expert level competence with Windows 2016 and Windows 2019.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Strong organizational and time‑management skills.
  • Ability to work independently or in teams in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Ability to interpret written or oral instructions and manage administrative data.
  • Compliance with operating policies, procedures, plans, and programs.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

Required to sit at a computer for long periods and may need to travel to job sites. Duties may involve outdoor work, exposure to chemicals or weather conditions, and operating in moderate to loud environments.
