We are seeking an experienced Customs Brokerage Supervisor to lead day-to-day customs clearance operations within a fast-paced international shipping environment. This role is responsible for ensuring accurate documentation, regulatory compliance, and timely release of import and export shipments while supervising a high-performing brokerage team.
The ideal candidate brings strong technical knowledge of customs processes, proven leadership experience, and the ability to manage operations efficiently while meeting service and performance goals.
What Is the Job:- Oversee customs clearance activities to ensure timely, compliant, and cost-effective movement of international freight
- Review and validate shipping documentation, including commercial invoices, bills of lading, tariff classifications, and valuation data
- Ensure adherence to all applicable U.S. and international trade regulations
- Partner with customs authorities to facilitate shipment releases and resolve clearance issues or delays
- Develop, implement, and maintain operational procedures and service standards related to customs brokerage
- Monitor performance metrics and ensure key operational targets are achieved
- Lead and manage a team of approximately 30 employees, including two direct reports
- Handle hiring, onboarding, training, coaching, and performance management activities
- Allocate work, establish timelines, and ensure consistent application of policies and procedures
- Customs Broker License strongly preferred
- Strong working knowledge of customs brokerage operations and global trade compliance
- Demonstrated experience applying trade regulations, classification, valuation, and documentation requirements
- Proven leadership skills with the ability to train, motivate, and develop teams
- Solid understanding of productivity improvement, cost control, and quality initiatives
- Bachelor’s degree preferred
- 3–5 years of relevant experience, including at least one year in a supervisory role
- Industry or professional certifications may be required depending on scope of responsibility
