Job Summary

Job Title: Project Manager – Mechanical Construction

Location: Tempe, Arizona

Reports To: Vice President of Operations

University Mechanical & Engineering Contractors (UMEC) is a wholly‑owned subsidiary of EMCOR Group. UMEC is a full‑service mechanical contractor serving the western United States, specializing in BIM technology and design‑assist services for complex mechanical systems across a wide range of markets.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Responsible for the successful completion of all aspects of the project, including field labor and productivity, scope management, construction schedule, client relations, job cost management, cost control, schedule of values, and change‑order management.
  • Prepare monthly financial forecasts and updates.
  • Enforce UMEC Safety Program and coordinate with the Safety Director to ensure proper site safety practices and procedures.
  • Coordinate purchase of necessary materials, equipment, rentals, and services with the purchasing department.
  • Ensure complete and proper processing of all project correspondence, records, reports, and timely submission.
  • Comply with all company operating policies, procedures, executed plans, and programs.
  • Direct and oversee the work activities of direct reports.
Qualifications
  • 5–7 years mechanical construction project management experience (or plumbing project management experience) with a mechanical contractor, or equivalent experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or Mechanical Engineering, or a minimum of 8 years combined experience in field installation and project management in the mechanical industry, with at least 5 years leading complex, multi‑million‑dollar projects.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and work experience showing the ability to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, project management and estimating software (e.g., Excel, Word, Project, Access, PowerPoint, Bluebeam Revu, Vista‑Viewpoint).
  • Travel to construction project sites in the greater Tempe/Phoenix area.

  • Ability to prioritize in a fast‑paced, multi‑task environment.
  • Basic business mathematical skill.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Effective time‑ and detail‑management.
  • Ability to interpret various instructions (written, oral, diagram, or schedule).
Language Skills

Effective communication in English; ability to cooperate and collaborate with multiple levels of customers, employees, unions, government agencies, vendors, and suppliers.

Physical Demands

Requires sitting, seeing, talking, and hearing; use of hands for handling tools; walking, reaching, climbing; occasional lifting up to 25 pounds. Must be able to navigate job site locations. Requires vision for close, distance, peripheral, and depth perception.

Work Environment

Requires prolonged computer work and travel to field locations. Exposure to outdoor and indoor conditions such as wet, humid, dust, fumes, chemicals, and variable temperatures. Noise level moderate to loud.
