Position SummaryCMI Group – Systems 3 is seeking a skilled Precision Deburr & Hand Finishing Technician to perform precision deburring, edge breaking, surface finishing, and cosmetic blending on complex aerospace machined components.
This position plays a critical role in ensuring components meet stringent customer, engineering, and quality requirements before inspection and shipment. The successful candidate will use precision hand tools, pneumatic and electric deburring equipment, abrasives, and micro-blasting equipment to remove burrs while protecting critical dimensions, surface finishes, and geometric features.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, takes pride in craftsmanship, and understands that precision finishing is a critical manufacturing process; not simply cosmetic work. You recognize how proper deburring contributes to product performance, inspection acceptance, and customer satisfaction.
Primary Responsibilities Deburr, edge break, radius, blend, polish, and hand finish precision-machined aerospace components according to engineering drawings, deburr sketches, customer specifications, and work instructions.
Read and interpret blueprints, GD&T, deburr sketches, manufacturing routings, travelers, and engineering notes.
Remove machining burrs while maintaining dimensional integrity, critical features, and specified surface finishes.
Use pneumatic, electric, and hand-held deburring tools to finish complex machined components.
Operate micro-blasters, polishing equipment, abrasive wheels, brushes, stones, files, and other precision finishing equipment.
Select appropriate abrasives, carbide burrs, polishing media, and finishing techniques based on material type and engineering requirements.
Perform visual and dimensional inspections throughout the finishing process to verify conformance to customer and quality requirements.
Identify machining defects, cosmetic concerns, and nonconforming conditions and communicate issues to Quality and Manufacturing personnel.
Handle flight-critical components carefully to prevent damage during finishing operations.
Maintain accurate production records and complete required manufacturing documentation.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area following 5S principles.
Follow all company safety procedures, quality standards, manufacturing processes, and work instructions.
Ensure compliance with AS9100 quality requirements and ITAR regulations where applicable.
Required Qualifications Minimum 2 years of precision deburring or hand finishing experience in a manufacturing environment.
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprint notes, deburr sketches, and manufacturing documentation.
Experience using pneumatic, electric, and manual deburring tools.
Working knowledge of abrasives, carbide burrs, polishing media, brushes, stones, and finishing techniques for aluminum, stainless steel, titanium, Inconel, and other aerospace materials.
Ability to recognize burrs, sharp edges, tool marks, and cosmetic defects while preserving dimensional requirements.
Strong manual dexterity and excellent attention to detail.
Ability to maintain high quality while meeting production and schedule requirements.
Strong communication, teamwork, and organizational skills.
Ability to lift up to 35 pounds.
Ability to sit or stand for extended periods while performing detailed precision work.
Willingness to comply with all personal protective equipment requirements, including eye and hearing protection.
Preferred Qualifications Two or more years of aerospace deburring and hand finishing experience on precision-machined components.
Experience operating micro-blasting equipment.
Experience finishing flight-critical or safety-critical aerospace hardware.
Experience working with tight-tolerance machined components and…
