The Development Officer, Sun Devil Athletics is responsible for implementing and coordinating comprehensive fundraising programs aimed at identifying, cultivating, and securing gifts in conjunction with the objectives and strategies of ASU Foundation (ASUF) on behalf of Sun Devil Athletics. In partnership with unit development directors, ASU Enterprise Partners, and Sun Devil Athletics staff, this position will identify opportunities and develop engagement strategies for securing and maintaining donors across the spectrum of our constituency.
This role will focus on building a donor pipeline with a primary target of $1,000-$25,000 gifts to support individual and unit portfolio growth and sustainability. The Development Officer, Sun Devil Athletics will provide primary support to the unit for event attendance and donor engagement opportunities, operating as a first-line representative of the unit.
- Engages actively with foundation donors, Sun Devil Athletics ticket holders, event attendees and the ASU community to secure gifts and grants that align with the Foundation's goals, campaign, and performance metrics.
- Contributes to the strategic planning and execution of fundraising and engagement activities.
- Participates in developing and implementing best practices for donor engagement, solicitation, and stewardship.
- Facilitates connections between donors, prospects, and ASU through various events, communications, and opportunities.
- Collaborates with ASU departments to ensure cohesive solicitation efforts and marketing strategies.
- Utilizes Salesforce to manage donor information and coordinates with research teams to advance prospects into the major gift pipeline.
- Assists in managing and staffing ASUF, ASU, and Sun Devil Athletics events, enhancing donor engagement.
- Supports specific development program tasks, including monitoring foundation fundraising and campaign progress.
- Coordinates engagement strategies across the enterprise, focusing on maximizing faculty, staff, student and former student-athlete involvement.
- Manages budgets for designated projects and events, adhering to allocated funds.
- Utilizes the University's databases and resources to effectively manage relationships with the ASU community.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field, or currently enrolled in bachelor's degree program
- One (1) to three (3) years of successful development experience
- Demonstrated ability in securing major grants and gifts from individuals, corporations, foundations, and other private funding sources
- Demonstrated ability in planning and implementing long- and short-range development initiatives in conjunction with strategic planning processes
- Demonstrated organizational skills and experience in managing events and other complex activities in support of development objectives
- Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to interact effectively with academic leadership, faculty, prospects, donors, and/or volunteers in a wide range of roles
- Ability to conduct research, gather data, analyze information, and prepare effective, accurate, and timely reports and other documents to support development objectives
- Database management skills
- Ability to supervise and train employees, to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments
- Ability to exercise good judgment, to demonstrate an understanding of ethics related to development activities, and to use discretion in interactions with donors, prospects, volunteers, and others
- Ability to foster effective working relationships within a team environment
- Community relations skills and the ability to communicate and work effectively within a diverse community
- Program planning and leadership skills
- Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality and responsibility regarding information related to Foundation and University business and confidential prospect information
- Highly developed verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present effectively to small and large groups
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and comfortable working in donor/prospect computer database systems
