Position Title: ASU Green Stormwater Infrastructure (GSI)/Nature-based Solutions (NBS) Engagement Coordinator
Slot Type: Approximately 20 hours per week

Primary Function/
Purpose:
The Environmental Literacy Corps member will support Arizona State University’s Sustainable Cities Network in advancing education, outreach, and engagement related to green stormwater infrastructure (GSI) and nature-based solutions (NBS) across Arizona communities. The member will help develop educational materials, conduct outreach to local governments and community partners, document case studies and community impacts, and support collaborative initiatives focused on water conservation, climate resilience, urban heat mitigation, and sustainable community development.
The member will assist with building a statewide inventory and map of GSI and NBS examples, policies, and educational resources to support environmental literacy and public engagement. They will also support convenings and stakeholder engagement activities that connect municipalities, tribal communities, nonprofits, educators, and community organizations around sustainable water and landscape practices.
This position directly supports the Environmental Literacy Corps goals of community outreach, water conservation education, and environmental stewardship through education and engagement activities.
Major Responsibilities and Duties- Collaborate with Sustainable Cities Network (SCN) staff, faculty, students, and community partners to support GSI- and NBS-focused educational programming and outreach initiatives across Arizona.
- Develop educational materials, presentations, communication tools, and outreach resources related to green stormwater infrastructure, which may include related benefits associated with water conservation, urban heat mitigation, and climate resilience.
- Conduct outreach and engagement activities with Arizona municipalities, tribal communities, nonprofits, schools, and other stakeholders to increase awareness of GSI and NBS practices.
- Create and maintain a statewide inventory and map of GSI and NBS projects, case studies, policies, and educational examples.
- Research, document, and communicate impact stories highlighting successful sustainability and resilience initiatives within Arizona communities.
- Support planning and facilitation of meetings, webinars, and stakeholder convenings related to SCN’s green infrastructure workgroup and related activities.
- Assist in the development of communication materials and storytelling tools that demonstrate environmental, social, and community benefits of GSI and NBS.
- Support implementation and outreach activities associated with the Phoenix Metro Region GSI Blueprint and related resilience initiatives.
- Track participation, outreach metrics, and engagement outcomes for reporting and program evaluation purposes.
- Participate in Ameri Corps and Environmental Literacy Corps trainings, service activities, and professional development opportunities.
- Support environmental literacy and stewardship efforts by connecting community members with resources, volunteer opportunities, and educational programming related to sustainability and water resilience.
Required:
- Background or strong interest in sustainability, environmental sciences, urban planning, communications, education, water resources, landscape design, or related fields.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively on multiple projects.
- Comfort with public speaking, facilitation, and community engagement activities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, virtual meeting platforms (Zoom, Teams, etc.), and general digital communication tools.
- Interest in environmental literacy, community engagement, and sustainability education.
- Ability to organize information, conduct research, and support outreach initiatives in a professional setting.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with community outreach, sustainability programs, environmental education, or stakeholder engagement.
- Familiarity with green stormwater infrastructure, water conservation, climate resilience, urban ecology, or related sustainability topics.
- Experience with GIS mapping, data organization, storytelling, communications, or social media outreach.
- Experience coordinating events, workshops, volunteer activities, or collaborative projects.
