The American Heart Association’s Internship Program provides college students an opportunity for hands‑on experience in various facets for individuals interested in gaining work experience with a non‑profit, voluntary health organization.

We have an exciting opportunity for an intern on our Development and Operations Teams. As an intern supporting our fundraising events, you will play a key role in driving the success of these impactful campaigns. Your responsibilities will include a variety of tasks that contribute to the planning, execution, and follow‑up of these life‑saving initiatives.

The Association offers many resources to help you maintain work‑life harmonization through your changing needs and life situations. You will have access to Heart U, our award‑winning corporate university, as well as training and support locally and through our National Center.

Internship Overview
  • Time Commitment: 20-25 hours per week

  • Salary: $23.00 per hour

Responsibilities
  • Assist with the planning, coordinating, and executing pre‑event logistics, and on‑site event management for multiple community events.
  • Conduct external visits, calls, and emails to help with recruitment, engagement, management, and stewardship of current and prospective donors and volunteers.
  • Conduct pre‑event outreach to attendees and conduct follow‑up calls to guests and participants.
  • Assist with sponsor presentation preparation and gathering materials for sponsor follow‑up after meetings, helping to maintain relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Assist with pulling reports, data entry, and organizing event‑related information to track progress and outcomes.
  • Assist with administrative tasks such as preparing printed materials, assembling thank‑you cards, and organizing event supplies.
  • Conduct prospect research to generate new leads and compile information for fundraising campaigns.
  • Support hands‑only CPR demonstrations.
Qualifications
  • Candidates who are seniors or graduate students pursuing a degree in business, communications, public relations, non‑profit management, or event management.
  • Experience/interest in promotion, sales, or fundraising.
  • Experience with public speaking and engaging with the community in group settings and one‑on‑one.
  • Must be comfortable with vendor outreach (phone calls & emails to vendors & donors).
  • Demonstrated excellence in written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated skills in effective one‑on‑one and group communications and comfort with working professionally with all levels of community leaders, volunteers, and staff.
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment managing multiple priorities involving multiple entities.
  • Intermediate to excellent proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Basic knowledge of Canva.
  • Required Equipment:
    Reliable WiFi Connection and reliable transportation.
  • Minimum availability of 20 hrs/wk, M-F between the hours of 8:30am-5pm.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship, now or in the future. For any roles working remotely, the work must also be performed inside the United States, not in a foreign country.
