Job Description
Ensuring the achievement of Northern Arizona Healthcare’s mission, the Registered Nurse is accountable for the coordination of care for patients and their families, including direct care, patient and family education, and discharge planning. In providing care, Registered Nurses follow the process of assessing, nursing diagnosing, outcome identification, planning, implementing, and evaluation as the basis for the delivery of care. The Registered Nurse provides leadership for ancillary personnel by serving as a team leader, preceptor, and active member of the healthcare team.
The nurse practices within the ANA Scope of Practice, the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses, and the standards of his or her specialty.
- Assess the needs and conditions of assigned patients by gathering relevant patient health information.
- Identify outcomes, develop an individualized plan of care, and implement the plan to achieve expected outcomes.
- Assess patient progress toward outcomes and revise diagnoses and plans of care as appropriate.
- Provide quality and safe patient care, respecting patient privacy and treating all patients, family members, guests, and associates with dignity, respect, and compassion.
- Evaluate patient conditions frequently and adapt the plan of care appropriately.
- Perform aseptic techniques by maintaining a sterile field while applying principles of disinfection, sterilization, and infection control.
- Maintain infection prevention standards.
- Collaborate with physicians and other health care professionals.
- Assist as necessary with procedures such as central line placement, chest tube insertion, x‑rays, ultrasounds, intubations, and extubations.
- Create and sustain a learning environment supported by evidence‑based practice and research.
- Focus on personal development areas and engage in professional interactions with peers and students.
- Collaborate with peers and health care providers, participating in ongoing in‑service and educational seminars.
- Mentor and educate colleagues and students.
- Adhere to regulatory and organizational standards affecting patient care and safety, and to all hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
- Stay current and comply with state and federal regulations and company policies that impact the area of responsibility.
- Ensure all certifications and/or licenses are up‑to‑date and valid prior to expiration dates.
- Complete all company mandatory modules and required job‑specific training in the specified time frame.
- Maintain timely and accurate documentation of assessments, interventions, EMR entries, and patient responses.
- Report any safety related incident in a timely fashion through the Midas/RDE tool; attend all safety related training programs; perform work in a safe manner; monitor the work environment for possible safety issues and ensure others are also performing work in a safe manner.
RNs hired on or after July 1, 2016 must graduate from a BSN program within six years of hire. Existing staff RNs hired before July 1, 2016 are not mandated to have a BSN, but are encouraged to pursue a BSN degree.
Certification & Licensure- Active, unrestricted Arizona RN License or valid, participating compact license – Required
- BLS – Required
- ACLS – Required
- ATCN or TNCC – Required within 18 months of hire
- NIHSS – Required within 30 days of hire
- CCRN – Preferred
Computers and other electronic devices are utilized across the organization and throughout each department. Colleagues must have an understanding of computers and competence in using computers and basic software programs.
