DescriptionArizona State University has embarked on a multi-year project to develop novel Compact X-ray Free Electron Laser (CXFEL) to generate attosecond coherent X-rays and develop multiple science end stations, including a suite of AMO instruments. We invite applications for a Research Scientist position that involves the implementation of x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy using soft-x-rays and ultrafast few-cycle laser pulses to probe interfacial charge dynamics in a variety of systems.
The successful applicant will join a team of experts in constructing the AMO spectroscopy end station at the Compact X-ray Free-Electron Laser (CXFEL) under the umbrella of a recent NSF midscale research infrastructure award. The successful candidate will work on the design and assembly of instrumentation to house a hemispherical electron energy analyzer, implement sample preparation and manipulation, conduct data acquisition and analysis, to enable femtosecond-resolved pump-probe studies with CXFEL and OPCPA laser, and participate in commissioning experiments.
- Construction, assembly, and implementation of AMO end station equipment including vacuum chambers, data acquisition and analysis using electron energy analyzer, operating tunable femtosecond OPCPA laser and nonlinear frequency mixing modules.
- Implementing controls and diagnostics of photon and x-ray beams and training and supervising graduate and undergraduate students.
- Technical writing including lab reports, scientific presentations, and publications.
- Working in multidisciplinary teams that span different research areas and academic units.
- Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Physics, Chemistry, Material Science, or a related field.
- Demonstrated knowledge of x-ray photoemission spectroscopy and/or use of electron energy analyzers
- Excellent verbal, presentation, and technical report writing skills.
- Ability to work within multidisciplinary project team.
Applicants should send a cover letter specifying relevant qualifications and training, curriculum vitae, contact information for at least three professional references, and list of recent publications by 11/20/2023. A background check is required for employment.
Arizona State University is a VEVRAA Federal Contractor and an Equal Opportunity/Afirmative Action Employer. Applicants will be considered without regard to race, color, sex, religion, national origin, disability, protected veteran status, or any other basis protected by law.
